There must have been a slingshot photoshoot today at St Kilda. It's the only way to explain the two slingshot riders who insisted on riding 5m from the beach most of the day when the wind was direct onshore.

Might want to consider others next time Mr Slingshot RPM and Mr Slingshot Fuel. You had enough power to go upwind. No need to ride right in front of shore when there are 20 beginners trying get going and make it near impossible anyone else to go out. [}:)]

...and no, this wasn't the kiddies pond we're talking about. It was on the main beach where the beginners and instructors have a right to be.

Yes it is annoying when kiters disregard that there might be several lessons underway, but, that's life. Besides, the flatter bits and the little kickers rolling in to boost off (which beginners aren't going to enjoy) make riding close to shore all worthwhile. Anyway most of us ride south of St Kilda (unless it's a seabreeze and the tides in). Perhaps its time to leave ur comfort zone and hit up some other spots that aren't full of beginners?

It has nothing to do with disregarding beginners or lessons. It was a polite way of saying the people is question were selfish douchebags who need to think about other kiters while they blazing their trail as Len10 wannabe's.

The point here is the way they were riding made it nearly ****ing impossible for anyone else to get out as could be seen by the 5 or 6 riders waiting to launch while they rode back and forth trying to emulate their heroes with unhooked tricks that nobody else actually gave a **** about.

On your third point, i don't kite at St Kilda often these days (for this exact reason), but W offer limited kiting close to Port Melbourne.

nice picture btw, what did you use to bang this together?

Also, I will be down at Gnotuck street tomorrow, its not quite as close as St Kilda Saff, but you should make the journey down, works well with anything West in it. No poo smell, no beginners just miles of kiteboarding fun to be had.

The app is called skitch.

Unfortunately it's mothers day or I'd be at Inverloch, but thanks for the tip. I'll head up there next time.

Maybe because we are all sick of schools running all the bloody time! Great way to kill one of melbournes flat water spots, run schools 7 days a week. Let the schools run during the week like normal businesses then when people want to kite on weekends /arvos without having to worry about schools they can!

I kited Brighton today & the number of ****wits who could kite was unbelievable!
Kite high rule is great, but if your down wind you must lower it also or cop a kiteloop knocking it out of the sky
Was very onshore so not much room, lower your kites people

Where's the diagram for all the noobs that decided to kite south and into the kiddies pool?

That guy on the Fuel gives me the ****s too. Loves weaving in and out of everyone one, riding up your ass and short tacking you back into the flats. No friggin idea!

Did anybody actually approach them and have a word if there are instructors on the beach aren't they perfectly placed to have a chat to the offenders about the set up? Surely instructors should be the ones to address these kind of situations?

I didn't bother about the newbies because it was so gusty in the pond that any newbies that went there would have got their just rewards. I did see the guy instructing his mate way across to the right.

Unfortunately I didn't catch them on the beach or I would have. The moment I got space, I went upwind to the wall and stayed there. Plenty of open water and it wasn't actually that choppy out there oddly enough.

Well I think you are talking about me, I was in the green area in you map. And was riding there because it was low ride. And there were other beginners downwind.. it's hard to find a spot with no people in ****ty wind and low tide..

Why don't you say something instead of bad mouthing people online, it's really lame..
I would also suggest putting up a bigger kite then a 7 in 15 knots, people where trying to ride around you with your kite at 12

Fact is people are going to get in each others way, deal with it

The Fuel rider was probably the most guilty party, but sorry, I'm confused, you need someone to tell you that riding through a bunch of beginners to do your unhooked tricks close to shore is a bad idea? How about common sense? For someone who is doing unhooked tricks, people shouldn't have to chat to you, you're experienced enough to know better! It's not that hard to think about people other than yourself.

As for the launch spot, there were 3 people waiting to get out at one point while you kept riding past back and forth, and by the looks of the comments above, you pissed off more than a couple of people as well.

As for finding a spot, It's not that hard to find a spot unless you want to be close to shore. You do realize you can do tricks away from shore and the kiddies pond is not the only spot in the world? If the kiddies pond isnt rideable you can get flat water near the top of the wall. You wouldn't have had to ride around anyone if you went upwind which you could easily have done. The only time people get in each other's way is when they are acting like you were.

As for the 7, I checked the wind at Fawker and it was headed through, it was just about 30 minutes too early as can be seen by the wind picking up shortly afterwards.

Watch it saf! You're trampling on his 'rights' regardless of their unthinking nature.
When it comes to ego, the rule of reverse human logic (RHL) applies: It's too clear and sensible to recognise that schools and noobs should be given their space therefore don't do it. I am a show pony therefore don't do it.

I had one of the worst times yesterday running the gauntlet to clear water. Clear water! Whats that? Again RHL reigns: there's so much of it (even at St kilda) that it somehow becomes invisible. A continuous freight train of people beating back and forth just up wind of the schools. RHL:I am capable of going upwind to find clearer water thereby allowing passage for people to come in and out of beach and it's less stressful for me therefore don't do it.

It's just all too draining on my sarcasm reserves.

Your map spells it out very clearly. Sensible people will be taking note.

Possible reasons for yesterday's problems:

1. Can't swim
2. Scared of sharks
3. Get freaked out every time the water is too deep to see the bottom
4. Haven't learnt to relaunch shiny new kite in deep water
5. Want to show off to newbies and let them know how cool they could be one day <------ Most likely reason

There is room for everyone but I found the situation pretty annoying as well. I spent 30 mins trying to get upwind partly because I took the wrong kite (8m as the forecast was 35kts) and was tea bagging along the coast and partly because I had to dodge people with their kite at 12 and some guys going slalom though them.
Everything was fine after the wind picked up.
Btw: Thanks to the guy with the cabrinha board who retrieved my board after my stupid qr self-released.

that's not necessarily a bad thing, an increase in popularity in this sport has ultimately been driven by innovations in safety features such as four lines, bridles and sliding safety lines. I wish more people could appreciate kitesurfing as much as i do.
