Just an FYI, a broken, washed-up Hyperdeemic nurdle stuck my friend in the heel, last friday.

I should have mentioned:

The needle was not next to the water, but 3/4 of the way from the road towards the water in the sand.

Jesus. That's makes sick man. Kids play there and all.

Would be worth calling the council about. Hope you're ok.

I tried to tell the council last time I found some there. What number do you call to notify the council?

That's bloody terrible. Assume any disease would be dead after it being in the water. Gulp.

Speaking of which, anyone ever had a oily petrol skin after a session at st kilda? Came home tonight and the missus told me I smelt like petrol. Oh te joys of st kilda!

I was walking around today on the exposed sandy bottom at the very low tide and was happy to see a relatively clean sandy surface with the odd rock in the kiddies pool until I saw a broken wine glass in about 4 large extremely sharp bits pointing upwards stuck in the sand . I hate to think the injury this piece of junk could have caused. I dumped them in the nearest garbage bin, but it shows you the need for some caution in St kilda.

Good on you iwinwil.

And I guess what with this being 'party season' extra care needs to be taken as I'm sure there is plenty of party revellers off their chops on drink and drugs, leaving their detritus for us to clean up by hand (or foot!).

How about we speak to National parks and tell them "to leave it the way they found it" That is their motto for national parks and they have left our beach full of rocks and a massive sand bar.

I'm up for clean up day. I reckon it is preceeded by the council tractor though, they can groom the beach and get most of it, we can get the rest.

Thnx 4 Ur interest & support Salt???

Yep I think the very poor state that the contractors left the K pool in is woeful shameful & very poor project mgmt by parks Vic or ports authority whom ever did the work let's lobby for some action.

1- Rocks left behind on the tidal zone
2- Sand placed for access reset to original levels
3-The glass removed from the beach 'sand' reclamation (man I have so many cuts in my kite now from self launch- landing there)
4-Water quality testing
5-so many boats anchored in nominated kite zone
6-outlet drain to have pre-treatment wsud on it etc

And yes we all can be proactive & pitch in to clean up, keep clean the beach everyone we all kite there just pick up a bit of garb every time we go for a sesh, even place some painted gal bins there - Maui Style ??? think local act local & pitch in for a better beach

Maybe Vic titles wkend seeing there is a hive of crew there sponsors etc making $$$ and no wind forecast anywayz???

The 30+ regular kiters plus the kiteschools instructors whom also kite there could do heaps

Bring it!!!!

Plz let me know so I can keep this good thing rollin

Hi guys, the standard of work on the new marina (running late, issues with the construction, shoddy work from what I could see this weekend) is a pretty good indicator of the contractor's attitude. I hadn't been to St K for a while and I was amazed how much sand had been left behind - I wasn't aware of rocks left over from the breakwater. At least the sand will wash away over time.

Needles etc have always been an issue with St Kilda - I know it's pretty cold comfort but the chances of catching anything from an old needle is extreme remote but make sure your boosters are up to date esp Tetanus and Hep.

On point 5, once the marina is complete, the boats moored to the piles will be moved over to the marina and the piles will be removed. At the end of it all kiters will have a larger kiddy pool space.

And on that note, on Saturday evening I saw loads of guys riding up close to the pier, around the yacht club slipway. We're not supposed to be there with very good reason.

EDIT: regarding the clean up idea, I know it's a way off, but I'm pretty sure Kite Republic set up a group to clean up the beach area on Clean Up Australia Day (2 March)
