Looking for a holiday spot to kite next week within 2 hours of Melbourne. Someplace that would be likely to have consistent wind, a few good eateries, and yoga for my wife, but not too built up. Any suggestions? We were considering Torquay. How would the wind be there this time of year? Also, from google images, it looks a little more developed than we would like. But it's hard to tell what it's really like. (We were happy with Port Douglas in Queensland if that helps). Advice?

Inverloch www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Kitesurfing/Victoria/Inverloch/ is the other way (East) and is kitable in most wind directions except North I believe but you can always head further down the Sandy Point www.greenlivingpedia.org/Victorian_kitesurfing_locations which IS kiteable in any direction. I haven't been there to eat except when passing though but it seems like there are a few decent places www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g552187-Inverloch_Gippsland_Victoria.html We get sea breezes several days a week in Summer in Melbourne and I think it translates to most coastal regions also. There is a kite school in Inverloch (Go Kite www.gokite.com.au/lessons/gokite-locations/inverloch/ ) you could have a chat to. I'm probably heading down there this summer too as my mother in law lives about 45 minutes away so it will be a cheap holiday this year.

For kiting, yes, when people talk about Sandy Point they are referring to Shallow Inlet.

Agree with the Inverloch recommendation.

Sandy Point has a surf beach that can be great for kiting with some big waves. Shallow Inlet is the estuary around the corner - flat water.

If you stay at Inverloch you have the most options for kiting - the surf beach can be good there too, along with a downwinder from the main beach to the Angling Club in the Inlet.
