Just a kindly reminder that the Bay is not as benign as we think. Kiting on Sunday around 5:00PM out near the breakwater at Sandy/Hampton and saw a buoy/bag floating along. Went to investigate and got a metre or two away and noticed a largish 2-2.5m Shark just lolling along behind. I thought it must have been hooked but as I got closer not the case, it was feeding and the Bag was a Burley Bag. Shark was not interested in me in the slightest, just putting it out there, the Snapper are well and truly in so think twice about those long body drags out in the depths.

Who puts the burley bags out? Is this legal in the bay? I've never seen that in the bay before.....sounds like a good reason to ditch the straps, forget about board offs and buy some hyperlite boot.

Do you know what type of shark it was?

Yeah, pretty sure it was a Bronzie, I'd say the bag was probably off the back of a Snapper Fisho's boat. The bag washed up just after the new groin towards Green Point.

Ah, so that's what you were saying. Couldn't hear you over the wind. I saw the bag but didn't see the shark. I was on the black/green ozone cat. Didn't get a chance to ask you when you briefly came in.

Last season a windsurfer was water starting and looked down to see a nice big thresher (at Green Point)............ they are most certainly in there, BUT they are doing their thing. In all likelihood they are around you all the time, you can't see them, but they can see you.....

A mate used to commercial fish inside the bay - you really don't want to know the shark sizes that are around in or out of the bay..

That said, you are more likely to get hurt kiting than by a shark taking your arm off..
