So there i was with my 9 yr old daughter on the sand opposite the dog park in Altona. We were flying the 350 and out of nowhere runs a pitbull and starts jumping all over her. She went nuts crying and super scared.

What tha.
So it wasn't good enough for them to have the park , they need the beach across from it as well.

I ditch the kite into the water, on it hoping it wouldn't take of again and i stare down the dog with the bar in my hand ready to shove it down the dogs throat or at least use it to protect her from it

Then for far away the owner rolls up and says "oh she wont hurt anyone" really now?

I told them the dog park is over there and we come here to keep out of their way and if they want a dog beach get to the other end past the ramp.

At least they apologised and they claim they didn't know it was a dog park. Talking to a couple of guys that just came back in down there and one said he got attacked whilst out on the water.
They call kiters irresponsible, pfft to that

Why the red thumbs...he's right! As an adult I don't care if a dog is on a leash or not but when I'm with my little daughter I do. And that argument that "it won't hurt" is BS anyway, a dog is an animal and irrational - if my daughter makes a "wrong" move it might feel threatened and "defend" itself. No, thank you!

You are right WE and matto , both right. No real blame game for and against anyone. The council just needs to put clear signs and run community education in local papers etc to where on and off leash areas actually are.

I have a kite and I like dogs. Do I really have to choose? Or can I combine them so there is a dog on a kite?

Cant recall the last time a kite unexpectedly mauled and killed an infant in a family home -- so yes, I see your point.

Today at St kilda I was chased and bitten by a greyhound. Not to bad, just a few scratch marks along my quad, cold have been worse if I wasn't wearing a wet suit.

When I went up to the lady who owned the dog, she sounded shocked that her dog would do that. She didn't attempt to put him on a lead again, just let him keep chasing kiters. She didn't even appear to be carrying a lead with her.

When I told her she should maybe try and control it she just walked away...

Pretty Crazy.....

Next time see if the dog has a council tag on the collar and report her. I love dogs (have 2) but it really is the owners responsibility to control them. And if they can't then they shouldn't be off the leash in a public place.

I take my dog down to that area of the beach also. I've been going to the park and beach for the last 4 years and can't remember ever seeing a pitbull in the area. Are you sure it wasn't a staffy and your just screaming pitbull to make your story more dramatic ??

Who cares? Are staffies exempt from the regulation?
