On the afternoon of Wednesday 14th this month three kiters were seen kiting off the beach in front of the St Kilda baths - at least one of them got into minor difficulties at one stage landing his kite on the beach dangerously close to the walkway and then raising and crashing it immdiately afterward.

The kiters were not identified but they were kiting well within the no-go zone 100 meters from shore and more importantly, in a very well marked NO BOATING zone. And kiters on the water are subject to all the boating and sailing reules and regulations.

If anyone knows who these kiters are please make them aware that their behaviour jeopardises the tolerance shown towards kiters by the City of Port Phillip. We do not want a few renegades getting kiting banned in St Kilda.

On Saturday 17th October - a slingshot kite was seen drifting across the road - somewhat unattended - with a number of people chasing after it.

Such a major road as Beaconsfield parade is probably not the place to let your kite loose.

I think there may have been an instructor chasing after the kite?????

It gets worse. Today I saw someone instructing in Port Melbourne, not even 50m from the yacht club and a major intersection (bay and beach). Why the hell would you do that?

The authorities turn a blind eye to kiting at port melbourne provided we don't piss off the locals like people at the yacht club, but instructing right there is a surefire way to make sure that kiting ends in Port Melbourne.

Apparently (dont have this verified by COPP yet) some rogue organisation was already spoken to by the council for instructing without a permit for the area...

The council does not turn a blind eye to irregular behaviour - so please bear that in mind - also make others aware of the issues if you feel they are new to the area and are not familiar with our need to preserve access.

Thanks. Are you talking about StK or Port Melbourne? My office is across the road from there so if I see them come down again I'll have a chat to them. Last time I saw them I was in a meeting so all I could do was watch in horror.

Depends exactly on where - thought it could even be Hobsons Bay jurisdiction - but have a look at this: http://www.portphillip.vic.gov.au/ward_map.htm

Thanks in advance for chatting to them anyway. If they need assistance or clarification they can contact us as well.
