just out of interest, was your van a 'kitewagon' covered in brand stickers and that type of thing?
have left gear in my car in St Kilda before, but was very nervous about it. i refuse to put stickers on my car, i see it as an invitation to nefarious characters to check what kit might be inside.

i know of a guy who had his entire kit in his van and toured Aus. he left the van as he bought it- covered in plumbing logos, was particularly proud of the one proclaiming 'Blocked Sewers!'. even left a few PVC lengths on the roof.

very few opportunists would leap at the chance to break into a poo-wagon.

he never had any trouble.
