Sounds impressive with 2 ponds, which work in opposite direction...
Winter will be interesting!

Steve and I often commented on a suitable location and thought Cherry Lake in Altona would be perfect for it, but of course it came down to red tape and $$$ Well done to them for having got this far!

I'd be interested to know who is funding this.

if it's anything like the Cairns Cable Park, it will be bloody awesome!

Incidentally, has anyone dared to kite that stretch of water? There seems to be plenty of room if you time it right and hold a good upwind edge.

A while ago there was a 2.0 system setup at Caribbean Gardens out in Knoxville that was running for a while. It was a massive flop, only 4 features and was a complete rip off. There was so much more potential at the gardens to setup a sweet cable park, but it never happened. I'm excited to see whether this gets up and running. Could be a really good alternative for the days with no wind and the off season.

The Caribbean System 2 is definitely not running any more mate. Cable system dismantled and trucked away, obstacles gone... the only remnant of the setup left is the starting dock they built for it. Running costs and insurances are the only obstacles to jib out there!
I work with the parks owner, and he was all ears when I told him about the news of the proposed full cable at Carrum.
To tell you the truth, the Caribbean system 2 may be considered by some as a 'massive flop', but by those who got to/chose to ride it, loved it. It was seriously epic.
From a business perspective, a single System 2-only setup is really hard to make fun and profitable, due to the fact that only one person can ride at one time. And then the minimum time for a decent few runs and stacks is 10 minutes, due to the time it takes the rope to return to the rider or return to the dock. Its ok if there's only 4 crew there to ride - 10 mins ride, then half hour chill, then ride again. But any more people waiting than that, and people just want to ride longer, then leave.
A System 2-only setup really needs a few winches setup and a mini ramp to keep punters psyched and hanging around.

thanks for that. I was actually there today having a wakeboard (first time) and jetski (also first time) with some blokes. Now keen to have a go at cable. I see it would have been a good spot for it. Not a good place for kiting though (not in a northerly anyway) as I quickly learnt.

Couldn't get more excited every time I hear news about the www.melbournecablepark.com/

If you never tried cable parks, I can tell you it's very similar to that initial excitement when you first discovered kitesurfing... Highly recomended to any keen kiter...

Cable goes hand in hand with kitesurfing... and each sport compliments the other one perfectly. The best thing about cable is obstacles... which most of the time you don't get while kitesurfing or wakeboarding.

Kitesurfing is a great sport when the wind is perfect. But the weather and the forecasts are all so unpredictable, and inconsistent, and this often makes kitesurfing quiet frustrating... (unlike cable which is guaranteed and predictable). For example you have all this expensive gear sitting in your garage, but in all honesty how many days in any given year you really get to use it properly? And i'm not talking about rubbish 12 knot days, nor crazy 40 knot storm winds... i'm talking about that perfect consistent wind range where you can execute tricks with ease and actually progress...

And then there is the long dredful autumn and winter with hardly any good winds.

In terms of the cold Melbourne weather, I don't see that beeing a huge issue either. Put a 3/4 wettie on and you'll be fine. I've ridden cable in Sydney in the middle of winter on very cold days. Sure it was pretty cold, but with a wettie it was still awesome and worth it...

can't wait
