To date, Kitesurfari has had the best wind I've experienced with Cape Flattery. It blows 24x7 all the time, like nothing I've ever experienced from a wind reliability perspective.

If you wanted to do it on the cheap, you could probably try get a flight to cooktown and find local spots around there. Seems like it has some sort of microclimate there that makes it blow solidly over winter.

There's so many options for a winter kite getaway.

We've had numerous awesome reports from this gig

www.zephyrkitetours.com/

Jen from Zephyr only runs tours. That's her calling. Check out her site! The pictures are great, but even they don't do the location justice!

I went with kitesafari and it was great. I d love to go back but missus is pregnant..

Options are:

1. go to cairns and kitesurf off yorkies Knob. You can get find a cheap place to stay at yorkies knob pretty much on the beach ifyou look around.

2. kitesafari. Great location, gotta love it. its a special trip, definitively different from just going to Cairns and hang out there.

3. Fiji:

I had a look at going to Broom but its bollocks over there. way too pricey. flights are around 1000aud per person. and thats before you even start eating, drinking and sleeping.

Im going to have to fly to Cairns and drive around a bit as camping is "out" this year.

I did Fiji solo about two years ago - Funky Monkey (off eastern side of island) - not fantastic - very basic facilities but IF the wind blows it is ok.

Better was Nananu Ira (northern side of the island) - is the resort which SHQ is also running some groups to group to (Safari Lodge) in July. Same as location as Kite Republic.

Accom ranges from luxuary beachside bure to shared dorm style, set menu, and all worries taken care if - everything is geared to kiting and windsurfing - even have boats taking you out to different locations and we did a few distance downwinders that were fantastic.

If the wind fails then there is always some incredible snorkelling to be done - saw some really impressive coral and sea life.

IMHO it really makes no difference if you go solo or with the group as you will be sharing the experience and facilities with them anyway... Maybe the group idea has some financial benefit - check it out.
