I'd like to try some kitesurfing in waves.

Are there any spots in Torquay area eg. Dange point) that can be ridden in
all conditions?

I saw the wind is N/W to S/W on sunday.

anyone made a chart of all beaches in VIC and wind direction that is acceptable?

POST YOUR BEACHES AND ACCEPTABLE WIND DIRECTION AND I"LL COMPILE A LIST

KBV used to have a location thing on their site. I don't think it lists by site but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to look at the map and realise a particular wind direction is offshore.

Yes but it would be nice not to have to look at a map for every beach in victoria.

Anyway, everyone else join in.

Altona- S,E,W
St kilda- S,E,W
Brighton - N, E, W (is this accurate?)

Don't dismiss the stuff on KBV - have a look at http://www.kbv.org.au/kbvmain/kbv-locationview.php?locid=100.htm
and you will see that some of the info in the simple form you want is there..

Unfortunately it is not comprehensive yet as it does not cover many of the ocean beaches and also relies on input from kiters who know the various locations...

For waves contact the guys in Warrnambool, Port Fairy and Inverloch!!!

NOt many places with waves that work in a NW unless you are happy to kite in very gusty offshore conditions,

Try Cat Bay on Phillip Island .....can get reasonable surf although it is protected somewhat, if there is a decent SW -S swell you should get 3-4ft possibly a bit bigger waves. SW Does not really work here but you can just hop over the island to Woolamai.

Quarantine and Corsair ( end of Pt Nepean ) are the only other places that have waves and work in a NW.......... really requires a boat and only works on a decent swell......and with the right tides.

If the wind is south west you have plenty of options..... Torquay, Anglesea to name a few.

Hi all,

Peters kiteboarding blog has a pretty good map - check it out
www.peterskiteboarding.com/p/melbourne-kitesurfing.html

Its overlaid onto google maps so you can get the complete picture.

If you are after NW swinging SW I would just go to Brighton or Hampton - both places are fine for these directions, northerlies just tend to be a little gusty.

This wiki site has good information on locations in Victoria (and across the world!), including Apollo Bay, Torquay and Phillip Island. Not all locations have detailed info.

Being a wiki, anyone can update the information.

I have also just created this summary article which has basic information about locations close to Melbourne in list format, which means you don't have to click through links to get the basic site info.

I have included some external links to thewindmap.com articles too.

Great stuff Pete !

I've updated the wiki at
www.greenlivingpedia.org/Victorian_kitesurfing_locations

with all the latest locations from the parks victoria website. I haven't kited all of these locations so have taken a guess based upon the map for a couple of them. Please update any locations that you know well.
