Hey thinking to plan a road trip from Vic and check out the west coast, when is the best time of year to kite here when the winds are most consistant. Prefer flat water.

Late Dec-mid Feb are the best days for Perth area. Sunny and the seabreeze kicks in 2 out of 3 days.
Further north the summer is extended through to April.

These are the % of days in the month we had sea breezes strong enough to run some lessons over the past 3 seasons. As you can see there is not really a ''best time of year'' trend although it seems January or February would be a relatively safe bet.

Here in Exmouth we start getting consistent seabreazes at the end of August, this year they didn't really stop until march.. But October November would have to be the months I get excited about the most, Drop me a PM if you need any more info,

Get lessons dude. Even an experienced mate if nothing better. I tried to teach myself and wasted my time (lucky that it didn't end in tears).

Everyone will say when you ask what size, "what size are you??" Look at the winds on BOM and compare to this chart jimbodouglass.blogspot.com/2011/01/interactive-kiteboarding-calculator.html

Kite needs to be newer than 2008, but generally the newer the better. Research your kite brands as each company makes kites that are more beginner friendly and more advanced. Look for "freeride" or "all around" kites if they don't specify beginner.\

Good luck

Hi Nissey , I think if you planning a road trip best not to plan to much where to go .. just get here ( Perth) anytime between Oct and April and then work out whether to go north or south.. I think generally road trippers head north in Oct/ Nov/ Dec and south after Jan/Feb /March / April but it can really vary.. I think best idea is to just lob up grab a vehicle and follow the wind !! have a good 1 !!

I think the best flat water spots are Augusta and Sandy Bay (Exmouth) .
