Hi guys, I'm keen on learning to kitesurf (I'm fairly into sailing and surfing so it's a nice progression) and the general feeling I seem to get is that one needs to have lessons to be able to learn to kitesurf properly and safely. The problem is that I am a student so obviously I don't want to spend to much and there definitely seems to differences in pricing for lessons. Looking immediately to the cheapest that I can find is Soulkite for just $300 (I'll be doing it with a friend) but I have seen some negative reviews about them. Then Perth Kitesurfing school at $400 with AKS (Who appear to have great reviews) at $810. Obviously I'm adverse to learning incorrectly but I really have to ask, is it worth spending over double? (Also I'm in the Freo area so AKS being based out of Hillaries doesn't seem a good option at all).

I would love to hear your opinion on it and sorry if this is a commonly asked question, I did search around but didn't turn up many coherent answers.

Jason and Sonya operate out of safety bay. Reasonably priced, and when I did my lessons the deducted the cost straight off the gear I bought... Free lessons in the end!

Thanks Myke, I didn't come across them before but they appear to be even more expensive than AKS, their Zero to Hero package clocks in at $990.

As for the equipment they are selling, do they have second hand or similar that has comparable prices to, for example, the stuff being sold on Seabreeze? If they do that might prove to make me go with them as the cost of all the equipment seems scary.

Also, I was contacted by someone through PM who suggested Perth Kitesurfing school for a well priced option, they appeared to learn well from them. Any thoughts?

check for permits to teach and insurance to teach, thats why you may have to pay a little extra enjoy but above all, be safe

I did my lessons a couple of years ago thru SOS in Freo.. the fella there is Nick and i see he is teaching again this season. Im sure if the pricing but the lessons were tip top.. they do the lessons at Applecross and Point Walter so location will be good for you... The guys at Kite Addiction teach at Applecross as well and they seem pretty good ...try to get lessons during the week if pos as the weekends are really busy down there. Cheers Jim.

Thanks Monkers, SOS actually might me a good option: I never thought about them and I go past there every couple of days :)
