.... Does it get a wind wave on a smaller swell, or does it need a half decent swell to have a wave and make it worth it??? I'm curious/keen to kite it hence the question.... Cheers

..... Yeah I've surfed it and know it needs swell to break, but was also wondering if a little wind wave might whip up with a good breeze.... Be a ngarly paddle in if you had an issue, how far ya reckon?? I guess 1.5km...

its over 2-2.5km once you factor in the last bit past the island out to the actual break.
have paddled it on long board, to surf out there on small days, plus sup as well when not worth a shorty. it's a decent roll of the arms. got to be able to swim 2km minimum in case of full loss of gear (and go with at least 1 other buddy recommended)

confident self rescue skill is handy to have, but still problematic if it swings offshore as per advice from qube.

it's bumpy if only wind waves. best is swell, and get the cleaner later waves in set.

probably better to just avoid it...

A couple of tacks from Pinaroo. Dog beach closest but I think kitting not allowed there

Katterlak,
I'm fairly new and not the most experiencedbut kite Pinnaroo most days. One day I went down and only 2 people were out (myself being one). The other guy went out to Little Island so I followed.

Launch from the southern end of Pinnaroo and tack towards Hillaries Marina. When you are 500m upwind head for the island and you should make the island.

It has a small beach and you can have a chat but not enough to land your kite and set up camp.

Overall worthwhile but not a full on Bear Grylls adventure.

Harness fell apart again out there today,. Rode unhooked the whole way back. ****ing long way!
Must have looked like the biggest kook coming back in, full poo stance, arm way up high, screening for a land.

Mystic majestic with a dynabar. But to be fair I didn't use the third security strap. Just clip in and strap tight.
So happy I made it in, would have been a pretty paranoid swim I recon.
