What! Farkers. Can't believe the lowlifes took your car.

The usual thing is for the thieves to break in while kiting and quickly pinch the easy stuff, not steal the car.

The 2nd carpark at Mullaz is frequented by lowlife theives. That's why all the kiters refuse to park there and park in a line on the grass verge of Oceanside Promenade.

Story: A friendly character up at Wedge got his car stolen while he was fishing late at night on an almost desolate beach. The car was less than 50m away from him with keys in the ignition. A Theif crept up and stole it under his nose before driving it straight into the ocean a couple k's up. It was an underwater reef for the rest of the night. The insurance would only cover him if he was 10m or less away from the vehicle. So the insurance got a slighly altered version of events.

Hopefully you get it back real soon. Number plate recognition cameras are around the place and even on some police cars. Makes it really hard now to get away with driving a stolen car around for weeks at a time.

When this stressful event has been all sorted out, it's probably a good idea to do a search on seabreeze or start a thread asking what other kiters do with their keys. You'll get heeps of good ideas for the future...

we, the kiters windsurfers and beach goers need to be extra vigilant, because the council aren't going to help.
on the Prado stolen at pinnaroo sunday afternoon the guy was seen having trouble starting the car, but went unnoticed as suspicious, im assuming he followed the kiter down to the beach and simply grabs his bag and takes it with the keys back to the carpark and drives off in front of unaware bystanders.

Don't give these a holes the chance, leave your valuables at home, keep ya key in a lock box or around ya neck, and try to take notice of people picking up gear on the beach, anyone carrying a bag back without board or harness is suspicious

My car got broken into at Trigg 3rd carpark nearly 2 years ago. Phone and wallet got taken. Anyway I spent 5 hours the following day getting another phone and organising new sim, lost cards etc etc, before heading back to work to catch up on the time lost.

Months passed........

Wife rings up 4 months later. Her voice was shaky. She was asking where I am and to come home straight away because there were 2 undercover police officers at our house waiting for me. Drove home thinking which family member had been killed in an accident.

Anyway, they asked me a series of questions about me, my movements etc. Then they asked me if I new "Hammer". I laughed a bit. They didn't.

Then they asked me about my phone, where I usually leave it and who could possibly have access to it. Then they asked me if I remember writing a text. They had the text written down and read it out to me. It was a badly worded dodgyy drug message threatening someone. I laughed while they read it out. They didn't.

They read the 2nd message out. It was just as stupidly written as the first and it was funny to hear the Police officer read it out aloud. I laughed again. They didn't.

They asked me if I wrote it?

"I can assure you that I have no experience in writing a gutter trash text message"

They assured me it was from my phone and that if I couldn't provide information of who could possibly have sent the text they would require me to come down to the station for further questioning. I stopped smiling.

The pressure was on.

I told them I couldn't explain where the message came from.

They said they'll give me a minute to think about it before I was to accompany them to the station. I sat down thinking WTF.....Right then my Wife came outside and reminded me that my phone was stolen from trigg beach carpark several months beforehand.

A few minutes pass and I am rapidly searching through the tax receipt folder. I find the receipt for the replacement phone. The dates match up and the Police officers cool off straight away.

They explained they were involved in a big court case and needed to provide evidence of a link between people of interest. They asked why I didn't report my phone stolen at the time.

I responded by saying that I just got on with life as quickly as possible. There's no CCTV cameras down there to show who broke into my car. If there was it would have been a help to all of us.

So I learnt that some of the thieves that break into cars in beach carparks aren't just 'kids' or petty thieves, they are serious career criminals.
