hi girls and boys

i am new to kiteboarding and was wondering what size equipment is best to buy? i am 175cm tall and 77kg.
i was looking at an RRD Obsession 10.5 meter kite with North 137/43 board or
Airush Varial 10 meter kite with Airush 142 Switch Board

Hi Chris , I am not familiar with those brands .. I have learnt on Cabrinha crossbow and Switchblades ...

but regarding kite / board size .. If you are going to only have 1 kite then a 10m will work well ... ideally 2 kites eg 9m and 12m would be better.
easier to learn on a bigger board eg 138 - 142

A 10 m is a great allround kite .I would go with a light wind kite too maybe a 14 m while learning and a light wind board too. I still can use my 10m in perth high wind days of 30 to 35 knots, but I use a smaller wind hungry board and my kite is a north vegas which is not a powerful kite. While your learning I wouldn't go out on those 30 knot plus days It can get pretty hairy not unless you have the cash to buy a 6 m kite aswell.
What will piss you of when your learning is light wind days ,but if you have the right gear you can still go out .Light wind days are better for practicing your first jumps and back rolls exc.

If you just want to buy 1 kite a 10 meter is a good option...I hav'nt flown those kites before ,but both brands have a good reputation. You wont know exacly what you want till you have been kiting for a while.
Check seabreaze for second hand boards and get 2 cheap 2nd hand boards a bigger one for light wind and smaller one for strong wind. If you go second hand you can get good boards for 300 bucks each instead of 1 brandnew board for 800 bucks.Kiteboard last for ages they are so well built.
check seabreeze forums for reviews on boards you are thinking of buying.

If you get hooked on kiting you will end up spending the money and getting a full quiver.I have quiver of a 7 m and 9 m for wave riding a 10m for freestyle and 13 m for light wind kiting in the snow and a 17 m for light wind kiting on water. I have also have a high wind board ,a medium wind board a surf mutant board for down winders and a light wind board.I have every thing to cover every condition and be nicely powered in any situation.

thanks for your replies guys.

i will eventually have more kites but for now to start out, would a 10m kite be enough in Perth. a guy who is selling the Airush package, i mentioned above for $1700 including bar, lines, harness, travel bags for kite and board, said that it got him going at 15-20 knots and he is 190cm tall and 100kg.

i guess i will look on here for a kite and buy 2 boards maybe a 138 and a 142 board.
also what are good brand kites and boards to buy?

any other feedback is muchly appreciated.
