Hi Mates,

I'm from Brazil and going to stay in perth for a few months, I pratice windsurfing and kitesurfing.

I'm searching some places that I can go with my girlfriend for she gain confidence with the Kite, she already did the classes, she's able to sail and go a little upwind, but doesn't make the transitions yet.

I'm searching some place that is safe, which she can practise to gain confidence without any worries (sharks, tide and off-shore winds).

Best Regards,

Use this location guide to help you find the right spots, as always talking to the locals is key once you get there, they will tell you where it's best for learners to be and what to look out for.

http://waksa.org.au/guides/locations/

Finding the right location is great, but make sure she's competent at deep water rescue and board recovery as most beginners aren't, especially those who learned in shallow water. Also make sure she understands the right of way rules as popular spots can get busy :)

- Pelican Point, Swan River, Nedlands.
- Beach One, Woodman's Point, Henderson (ignore the two other beaches either side of the point further west).
- Safety Bay, Rockingham (lots of leeward shore to drift back on to).

Don't bother with what Radkite said about Melville Waters - it's gusty, and the launch area is very dangerous.

+1 for Safety Bay
the most consistent winds on the flattest water with the longest stretch off cross-onshore beach
It's where I learned. It's perfect

Yes! Pengos is the best spot to learn for sure :). Even if it's a bit of a drive for you it will be worth it.

The problem with the WAKSA location guide, from memory, is that pretty much everywhere that is local and metro is listed as intermediate to expert. Dongara and Melville Water are listed as ok for beginners. And I can't see how Melville waters is better for beginners than some others. AS good as the intention of WAKSA is here, it seems completely unworkable to me. But I'm sure it is good for WAKSA from an insurance perspective.

Thanks for all these informations, last weekend I visited Safety Bay, it's an amazing place for beginners.

I'm going to see further information for all these places, and probably visit most of them.

Thanks!

Well I wouldn't say Dongara is a top beginning spot, great for body dragging and quiet set up
But you'll progress quicker on flat water than shoreline conditions but you'll be a better kiter if you master our conditions first

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Pelican point, let me think of some minor problems there,
A big f in bird sanctuary 100 M upwind ( unless your a local trying to ban kite surfing )
No where safe to launch from ( No it's not for a beginner )

On the plus side, yes it's shallow very shallow.

Melville YES
Find out the rules, know your wind speed/ kite size req (sea breeze app) & ability

Do enjoy the moment tho & GOOD LUCK

i had my training package of lessons last summer at Melville and also point walter. Have also tried Pinnaroo and Safety Bay and Safety Bay (just outside the pond) is what i like the best. Can walk out on the point easy, go either left or right and not be in too deep water in case things go wrong. And the south westerly blows you back on shore so you learn to try and go upwind quite quickly.

I want to go around the corner to the west more as ive heard thats good, and on a weekday just as the seabreeze starts i want to get in early for a quick hour on the pond before it fills up :)

Dont mind Melville if the wind is quite strong. Take a smaller kite out and the gusts arent too bad, plus there are lots of instructors and intermediate riders around that can help you.
