Hi all

I will be coming to Perth/WA for a 3 week holiday in half January.

I am planning to bring my kitegear, but given the low baggage allowance (20kg) I will have to choose between my RPM 12m and RPM 9m.

What's the best size to bring? I was thinking of the 9m, i am 70kgs of weight.

Radiance thats a hard call to make given the previous 2 seasons!!! the current wind patterns would indicate that at 70 kgs you should be buying a 7m for Perth & smaller for up North but who knows????

Skill level, board etc will also play a big part in your kite choice.

I'd be going the 9.

@ 95kgs i was overpowered at times today on my 10 riding a SB but it was gusty cons this arvo.

Hey thanks guys.

I'll take my 9m then, RPM has less power than equivalent delta kites. I ride compfortably in all conditions, up to 40-45 with a smaller kites.

i'll take as little clothes as possible, otherwise additional sporting equipment will cost me a leg and an arm with pretty much any airline.

Also, I am planning to rent a campervan. Is it worth driving up to Broome in wet season? Or flying to Broome and driving back down with a van?

What is the furthest I can drive up north in Jan?

Thanks again!

40-45 you can get that in south spain and canary islands... or during some proper gales here on the english SE coast

ok gotcha Weta, it doesn't make much sense to drive up to broome then

i was curious to visit the north during the wet season but if you say it's a no-go i'll stick to your advice. i'll go through a lonely planet guide in the next days to have a better idea of the trip

Thanks!

Radiance WA is a big place, if i had 3 weeks i wouldn't spend the whole time travelling. I have never been up North in the wet so cant comment. I think Broome is a 2200 Km drive from Perth which would take roughly 2.5 days allowing for stops etc. You can do it in 24 hours or prob less but thats straight driving. Flying up and driving back maybe an option but you probably wont get a kite until you hit Exmouth, has the potential to be a great road trip.

Broome is a great place but during the Wet season its going to be pretty uncomfortable. If you are happy with 42 degrees and 95% humidity and you camper has good A/C then go for it. You have to be careful about the jelly fish are that time. Cable beach is "closed", although people still swim in there.. Im sure if you drove to Sharks bay or Exmouth you would be happy.

Mate if you are contemplating flying from Perth to Broome and staying there you can afford to pre pay $30 excess baggage and bring both kites. Personally if I was flying into Australia for a holiday including kiting I would bring every kite I owned.

Respect our beaches and local rules and you'll have a fabulous time.

Enjoy!

If you really want to see the Kimberley in the wet fly up into Broome for a couple of days, have a look around then fly back down south, you can score some very cheap flights and accommodation at that time of the year. It's a far more efficient use of your time and $$$. You can drive all the way through to Broome from Perth in as little as a day and a half with two experienced country drivers but you are still talking 2200km.

I worked with a couple that could do Perth to Halls Creek in 30 hours (3000 km) but that is a serious undertaking

If you only have three weeks keep your road trip to the south west at that time of the year, probably no further north than around Geraldton. Any further north and it will probably be too stinking hot and chew up too much time.
