Ok so i'm learning, have had my lessons still know i have sooo much to learn, am watching the Progression DVD and I know that the best conditions for Kiting are in crossshore or cross onshore winds. How do i get a prediction on the wind say for this arvo as seabreezes charts only show current, or just general Perth forecast so today for example shows that at 3.30 it will be 17km's and ESE. I was wanting to head to Woodies this arvo to practice some body dragging and on the WAKSA site it says that no matter which way wind is blowing its still cross shore winds on beach 1, which to me seems perfect conditions. And to me the way i read sebreeze it means that all morning has been no good for Melville for me as its ESE which means cross off shore or off shore. Sorry but it confuses the hell out of me and i just want to know the best way of checking out the right conditions before i go and make an idiot of myself. I know rule of thumb is that if there's no kiters out dont kite and i wouldnt but what if those kiters were experinced at off shore, i dont to put myself in that position. Just a bit of advice on if i'm reading it right would be a great help

Best to just go and look. Compare what you see to the graphs later and with experience you will develop the skill of prediction.
Don't believe the graphs!! Not being cynical just that the investment of fuel money will always be worth what you see with your own eyes... It's safer ( coz it's real) and you just might find a nice spot that the sheep arnt using!!! Or a sexy girl might be going for a walk..
Good luck

Edit ... Slash sexy boy walking on the beach!! Sorry didn't really pay attention.. How did you go looking for a spot? Easterlys are a bit tough but a good seabreeze will get you out at the usual spots soon. Remember look at the conditions (not on your computer!!) assess the risks, plan for trouble. Cool as fun.

No one really bothers kiting on easterlies in Perth because:

1. Generally gusty and crappy winds

2. Not safe, can blow you out to sea

3. Limited spots you can go

4. We are blessed with fantastic seabreezes most days of the week over summer

Therefore, most people just wait for the regular arvo wind days. On days when a seabreeze is forecasted, use the charts as a guide, then just go down to the beach and have a look.

Thanks for your responses guys, I spent mid morning at my aunts in coogee for family BBQ, started to head to Woodies and got a call saying bad fires my way, I live in Clifton Hills which is in Kelmscott so had to race home only to find I couldn't get through, I wasn't allowed back to my home, and while waiting in the evacuation area I finally get a text to evacuate, bit late, extremely upset, I have 2 dogs, 2 pure bred cashmere bunnies with babies and sacks and chooks and I couldn't do a thing to help them:( strange thing was while at BBQ some were complaining about the wind and I sat there and said I relied on it little did I know it would play such a traumatic part, I am very thankful to my family and friends who have helped me so far, I waited 6 hours before finally having enough, my husband is away up north so my brother and I sneaked through a back way when the wind died down, made it home saved my dogs and rabbits, got important papers and photos and clothing loaded the ute and got out of there:( the winds are extreme in the best of times do I feel the firies still have along way to go, kiting obviously wasn't meant to be, main thing is my family and I are safe, just feel for those that didn't get the chance...
