It is with great pleasure that I announce that the Australian Blokart Association is now official. It has been registered in Victoria as an incorporated association.

The ABA is, in a sense, a club of clubs. The members are clubs, not individual people. This means that the ABA will be not only be accountable to the clubs that are members, but will actually be run by them through their nominated representatives called "delegates".

The member clubs are at present
Melbourne Blokart Club - Delegate is Brian Campbell
NSW Blokart Club - Delegate is Danny Hall
Brisbane Blokart Club - Delegate is Andrew Hine
Central Queensland Blokart Club - Delegate is Dave Moore
Perth Blokart Club - Delegate is Andrew Bates

The committee of the ABA is made up as follows
President - Brian Campbell
Vice President - Andrew Hine
Secretary - Danny Hall
Treasurer - Dave Moore
Ordinary Members - Andrew Bates, Vacant

There is still a lot of work to do. Just creating a club is not an end in itself. There is still much to do to develop the support for the member clubs that is the reason for the ABA's existence.

Keep an eye out for more news.

Regards,
Brian Campbell

There are a lot of organisations that share pretty much every three or four letter abbreviation.

By the way, why do you guys sail under the Alpaca and Llama Show Association?

The draft constitution can be accessed through the Melbourne Blokart Club we site (http://www.melbourneblokartclub.org.au). The final constitution is 99.9% the same.

One of the first things the new association will have to do is get some info up in its own right.

Well its like this, Alpaca and Llamas are cantankerous, aloof animals that spit!

Actually come to think about it there might be some similarity with the current ALSA situation

Merry Christmas to all

Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (As an HP-UX & Solaris biggot, this one must surely be a joke!!)

Australian Longitudinal Study of Ageing (probably more appropriate)

but wait there's also: Australian Liquor Stores Association (now we're talking)

or there's: Artificial Limb Services within Australia (hmmmn don't like the sound of that)

Australian Law Students Assoc. (might be useful after that last one)

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis Assoc. (Won't touch that one!)

And on page 2 of Google: "Australian Landsailing association" and guess what!! It was an entry from Seabreeze!

Given that "ABA" is used for the Australian Breastfeeding Association, Australian Bankers Association, and Australian Bowhunters Association, to name just the first 3 that Google thows up, it is pretty safe to say that the abbreviation itself is not owned by any one organisation, not that an abbreviation itself can be registered.

Regarding you "sarcasm" comment, a) consult a dictionary; and b) grow a sense of humour like your mate, Wheelnut who I owe a word of thanks for a good belly laugh Christmas morning.

Well done Brian, glad to see you guys have made it this far. Wish you all the success in creating a great assn.
Susan
PS
As a long term breastfeeding counsellor for ABA (Aust Breastfeeding Assn) please make sure if you ever give us a ring to make sure you say Aust Blokart Assn rather than ABA or I might get a tad confused
