can you tell us a bit more info about Sandy point. Ive seen one or two photos but would like to know more about the sailing venue for landyachts if I'm going to make it part of a trip east

Yeah Nebbian, would have been great in the inlet for the boards, especially if they were there early when the major part of the front came through. Flat water blowing hard. We sail in steady 5-8 kts and do 25/30 kph on the tarmac! That's why this post is in blokarts.

Horses for courses I suppose, wouldn't dare compare the two.

On a good day the front beach is 30-40m? (others correct me if I am wrong) wide at low tide, many kilometres long!!

1 hr after low tide I had to march back to the clubhouse about 1.5 k as the sand was too soft for me, in 20kts!!!

Hey Cisco, I haven't yet sailed Sandy Point unfortunately. I think I'd need a serious injection of skill to come anywhere close to this guy:



(Chris lives in WA and flies over to Sandy Point when conditions are cranking, he's dedicated! On this run he hit a peak of just over 50 knots, and should give you some idea of what SP looks like.)

The world record on water was set by Antoine Albeau, and is 49.09 knots (over 500 meters). So Chris doing 50 knots for one second isn't a world record, he has to keep that up for 20 continuous, psycho, overpowered, edge of control, FULL ON seconds...

I'm still very impressed at doing those speeds on a landyacht, at least on water when I bail out (usually around the 30 knot mark) I have less chance of breaking my neck...

it is the front beach we are using Paul, have about 6kms in a sw which is 90 degrees. In Vindicator (yes know the yacht, I was one of those blowies finishing just in front of you in the marathon 2006, only 1 lap of course) I think you would probably have to stop and manually turn her round and go back! You would need a good low tide too. Take a look in google earth.
