Good morning all Blokarters and their support crews.
Not sure where to begin but will try to explain from my perspective. Arrived at S. P. Friday mid morning parked and set up the club trailer and went in search of fellow Blokarters found Ben,Milli,Jas, Greg,Bobbi,Pam and some of the Geelong crew already in the park. The wind was starting to crank from N/E so three of us headed to Shallow Inlet for a bit of race tuning,after working out the soft parts of the sandy carpark three karts were able to blast for 1km on the boat launching side for couple of hours only to be beaten by the fast rising tide(oh John and Jon arrived for 10mins). Saturday dawned dark and very threatening with the forecast set at Westerly 25 to 35 knots i knew we woud be in for one very interesting day of racing,registration and scrutineering was carried out in between the very heavy showers with several trips over to main beach to check on the conditions and state of the beach,due to the wind holding up the tide to close to 3/4 mark the start of racing was posponed until around midday. On to the beach or lack of it, pilot briefing done with the strong emphasis on safety course was set for a 2km five lap enduro.Some interesting sail choice by some pilots most going for 3m and plenty of fibre glass mast section combinations,the first race was started with constant 20knt breeze big gusts of to 30knts which proved very interesting at the turn marks with several gear failures a few capsizes and plenty of trips into the ocean for those not prepared to wash off any speed.One race down and most of fleet suffering a little the race committee shortened the next two races to 3 laps.Of the 19 starters it was heavier pilots that seemed to be able to master the conditions quicker than most with Kemis(Gippsland)and Pete(Geelong)leading the way in the production class,L.W Performance was lead by John T(Melbourne) and Ben(Melbourne),H.W Performance was three way battle between Richard(Melbourne),Jon G(Ballarat)and Alistair(Geelong).The days racing was concluded with only 3 races completed with beers and chat in the camp rotunda and evening meal at the Orange Roughie followed by an early night due to the physical exersise of the days racing. Sunday was forecasted to be 15/25 knt westerlies.The sun was out but the wind proved to be a little difficult to read,a 10km three lap enduro course was set so sail choise was very important,i think i saw a 3m,4m and a 5.5 during pre race practise with the majority settling for the 4m set up and the heavier guys going with 5.5s.A very interesting race with which was lead from start to finish by the lightest pilot Daniel with 4m full carbon rig and then Jon G 4m and then a couple of 5.5s an then the rest of the fleet streamed out over course in the very patchy winds.The race committee due to conditions and time restraints set up a short course and proceeded to knock over another 4 races to give us total of eight enabling two discards for series,before the time got away from us again. We concluded the weekend with presentation and prise giving back at the camp rotunda.
