I was cordially invited to two meetings the IBRA held during the recent world championships in Ostend, Belgium.
My recollections of these are:-
1. It was a unanimous decision to support the North American Blokart Sailing Association bid to hold the 2012 World Blokart Championships in Ivanpah, Nevada USA.
2. It was heavily recommended that Australia put in a substantial bid for the titles in 2014. As was agreed in 2008 that the championships be moved around the world, this would bring them back to the Australia/New Zealand region. My feeling is that we should work with the New Zealand association on this submission.
3. The IBRA website will be completed along the lines of the EBA site.
4. The IBRA move to a more formal structure. A constitution drafted by NZ members to be floated for comment.
5. Three "sub committees" to be formed to detail/discuss etc........
1. World Championships
2. Kart Rules
3. Racing Rules
6. The IBRA makeup was discussed, ie which countries are represented, how long do they serve, when does the committee change, etc. I am positive this will be addressed with the constitution and further meetings/email within the IBRA.
Overall it was a pleasure to meet with all the members from across the world and be involved in discussion that is shaping the World Blokarting future.
For Australian Blokarters:
Firstly, start putting the pennies away for a trip to Ivanpah in 2012. I am sure it will be an event not to be missed.
Secondly, let's put on the thinking caps for a superb 2014 bid for the World Championships.
Russell.
