Great news, my set of Fallshaw wheels will be here next week, great stuff! I have been poreing over all the info and articles posted here and now have to make a final decision. I want to build a Class 5 L/S, do I build to just under max. wheel track, 1950mm, or build a narrower style of 1565mm? If I build narrow, the design is a "Y" frame, then I would have a longer "spine" to the front wheel. If I build wide, the "spine" is much shorter. Does the extra width of wheel track have better or worse handling characteristics? Is a wide track faster or slower than a narrow track? A narrow track obviously turns in a smaller circle. What is the optimum wheel track?
Transporting the rig will be easy (?). It wont fit in the car when dissasembled, so it all has to go into our trailer. If I build a classic "Y" frame design then it will be even more easily transported with the trailer. A narrow wheel track would mean an enormouse amount of less stress on the joints of the frame. I like the design using internal bolts as there is no possibility of the axle tube rotating and the wheel angle (camber) can be changed so easily when desired. It would also have a very "clean" look to it when assembled. Only two small screws, M8 x 12 will be seen that fasten onto the axle tubes.
I have been design drawing (CAD) all day for two weeks and I feel brain dead at this time of night. My boss told me that I can relax tomorrow as he will be explaining what he wants in the form of a machine to roll and unroll spools of conveyor belting that only 10 tons each one. I actually am looking forward to this project. Yeah, just like a whale needs a hole in the top of its head, . I guess I realy enjoy what I do. Do I build a wide track or a narrow track? Is there an optimum width?

Sounds like your yacht is morphing into lefroy mini, ie blokart wheelbase. Good choice. cheaper to build and it should fit in small car.
