Started this thread to keep your build thread clean Lachlan. When the build is finished maybe hillsy can make it a sticky.

Excellent workmanship Lachlan and I don't see one little difference from Paul's build.

Keep up the good work mate and keep us posted. Cheers Cisco

Looks good Lachlan!!

Once you've made the seat are you able to remove it from the frame or is it on there forever?

love the seat, kinda star trekky
re the brace, TP1 ripped his mast step almost off with a mondster sail/wind combo, The brace was the last thing standing.cos it took out a rear bending action , leaving only tears in the metal on the sides. his chassis now has a U strap under the mast step

The U strap appeared very early (1987) on the Seagull Quebec/Promo chassis for exactly the same reason.

Thankyou for all the compliments and advice, especially Paul, I think I'll put that brace on after all.

I was going to make the seat removable, then thought I'd just build another yacht when i wanted something new. Even now I have ideas I'd put into another yacht, particularly as I made the current seat a little too wide (approx 550mm and I'd fit into 450 ). I have a fair bit of the galtube laying around too, and its easy to get locally if I didn't.

Was hoping to do more tonight but as its looking I wont finish work until late, hopefully something wont go right and I can get away early .

responderman said in the build thread...

Hi there,
Greetings from the UK I am really enjoying building my land-yacht. its all come about from just surfing the net one Sunday afternoon. You look to be a little further on than me, and I am just trying to work out a nice looking seat layout. What sort of sail do you intend to use?
nice work, well done
regards
Jay

A little further on....hmm, not going to say how long the chassis has been sitting there without the seat. Good to hear your enjoying yours. I have a couple of sail board masts (one to cut and reinforce the other) but I haven't thought much about sails yet.

Was going to set up the mini and measure how much flex the mast will have and then get the sail cut to fit the curve (Gizmos idea/suggestion). I'll have to find one to get modified sometime soon.

Looks like a very serious mini coming up there lachy. A bit of bog and fibre glass around that seat and it will take on a character all of it's own.

Very clever what you have done with the step in the seat base.

Does "The Brigalow Basher" sound like a good name to you.

Keep the pics coming mate, it is shaping up really well. Your next big hurdle is a sail.

After Yeppoon Paul left me with one of his 4 sqm fertiliser bag sails as a pattern sail which works really well. I have had it measured by the local sail maker here and he has quoted around $600 to reproduce it in sail cloth material.

I need at least one more sail so if a couple more people need a sail also that price could be substantially reduced per sail maybe. He does have a stock of appropriate weight sail material in various colours that he would like to get rid of .

If you are interested in that let me know. Cheers Cisco.

Cisco: Yes mate, very interested in getting a sail sometime soonish (especially if it will reduce the cost for everyone involved ).

Not sure what this stuff 'bog' is that you want used, isn't that stuff useless and only for filling holes?

As for the name, I think it would have to be the 'Mallee Basher', although not too sure what that would do to landsailings green image.

With "bog" I was just referring to any kind of filler used for rounding the corners etc.

I will ask the sail maker what it would cost for three identical sails. His quote for one was about $650.

I get confused with brigalow and mallee not being a country boy.

Thats ok Cisco, I may know what Mallee is but am unfamiliar with Brigalow (maybe they are one and the same?). I have to say that Im not currently in a position to spend anywhere near $600 on a sail, I forgot to say it might be an option in the near future (sorry for saying 'soonish', I forgot about my current finacial situation [}:)])
Be intereseted what you get quoted though, rough figures
