New subject :-) (Still with the Questions???

I am unsure about the Pacific Magics Mast. In the Plans it appears to be a 2 piece mast with an outer, Inner (main mast) and at the base a solid core?? Is this the case?
Will a Carbon Board mast do the same job??

At the moment I am looking for a source of Duraloy/Air craft Aluminum tube. Metal Mart, Metal Land etc, when these products seem to go "Duh!" and confused when asked about it.

. your probably confusing them with brand names, your not going to be able to buy Aircraft grade ally from a metal shop.. try finding a Capral Aluminium distributer in a capital city. The T8 sections i mentioned before come from them .
a 30+% carbon mast , with an insert in the lower 0.5 m would probably surfice

Thanks Landyacht.. Took me a while to refind this thread and the way I managed it was to repost
Solid insert or tube?

I've been looking at your posts on sail re-cutting.. I shall keep it all in mind. I will start out in bits and pieces and work my way though it all. At this point I just want to get this thing going... I managed to find some Drill Core tube. That is some heavy stuff, 10mm wall thickness. That will take low Hydrogen Rods no doubt But can mild steel be welded to it??

Hi,
I noticed this post, I have been buying high tensile tube , firstly for gryocopters. airborne trikes and now land yacht masts, for a few years from Bob Kiely
(Light Spars Of Austrlia
6 Horscroft Pl, Moorabbin,
VIC 3189
p: (03) 9555 4622 f: (03) 9555 4965)

Bob still only uses phone / faxes ( as he says he is still using carrier pigions)
Bob has supplied masts for Travis Bartlet(through a supplier) and 2 directly to me.
He tests the tenstile strength of all his tube before he lets it go.
He is a great guy and has had years of experience in making masts .

I think that is the outer drill rod tube thhat you have got hold of is is a bit on the heavy side. most of us use the lighter inner drill tube.
Cheers

Like you said Vic, that must be outer drill tube as the core tube we use would be 2mm thick at most.

sounds more like a rod from a raise bore

Well you guys specified Diamond Drill Core Tube and I understood from the rhetoric, it to be the outer tube, they drop this stuff as far as 2,000ft and steer it about.. 55mm x 10mm wall.
