I made a mast crane today for the mini. The carbon mast has a plastic insert on the end of it with a hole in it. I went to the hardware store today and bought a piece of pipe that fit inside the plastic hole as a metal sleeve. I bought a 10mm bolt that fit in the pipe sleeve. The idea was allow the crane pin to pivot in the metal sleeve rather than the plastic to keep the plastic part from eventually wearing through. The thing I'm worried about is the mast tip cracking where all this stuff goes into. The crane pin hole is about 1 7/8'' or 47mm deep. The arm of the crane is about 4'' out or 101mm. Are mast cranes known to crack carbon masts with these sizes?

you bet!!!!!
you will need to wrap some 2" glass tape with resin around the tip.
Ive literally pulled a crane 3" down the mast and shattered the lot, and that was before I started using a 4:1 downhaul

This one goes over the top/outside of the mast, and inside the sail. Works great, and the bearings allow easy twisting.

wow! That looks strong enough to pull an engine. Does it come standard with a Gopro mount?
Actually I wrapped the mast tip today a bunch of times around with cloth and epoxy about 5'' down from the top.
I bought a few used Fed 5 5sm sails for the mini. I will be able to rig up soon. I need to make the front end and rear spindle plates and assemble. I'm getting closer to completion. I plan on using the mini at the Holy Gale in June.

make sure you take a smaller rig with matching mast just in case it is a holy gale
