Is it possible within the FISLY rules to build a timber axle Class 5?

The FISLY class 5 promo rules are quite prescriptive on the materials that the yacht must be made from.

B. Chassis

B-1. Materials, dimensions

The chassis is made of steel tubes. Exceptions are nuts, bolts, washers, axles, steering pivot, brake, foot pedal and support that can be made of stainless steel.

B-4. The axle tubes

Each axle tube consists of maximum two tubes
Each axle tube consists of one entire external tube
Each axle tube has one open end to make scrutineering possible
Each wheel sindle holder is welded onto the axle tube
Each axle is straight

However the FISLY Class 5 rules state:

CHASSIS

C3. The chassis must be made of metal tubes, the section of which must be round, square or rectangular. Cables are forbidden, except for the steering.

The rules don't go into any details about axles.

Would I be protested if I had a timber axle yacht?

Ben.

Is it possible within the FISLY rules to build a timber axle Class 5?, In simple terms ....... NO !!!!

The Class5 and Class5 promo rules are VERY strict, and that is one of the many reasons the International 5.6 Mini has taken off. It allows for creative construction / materials.

nice thought Ben , but not really
historically the predecesor of the class 5 was the class4.
they started as tubular framed yachts ,which rapidly evolved into smaller class 3's. they were VERY fast , bordering on dangerous.
the 5 was introduced and tubular metal frames are a rule that has survived the years.
here in AUS wve started ,by agreement with the other pilots to allow carbon/kevlar/glass in the mast and boom ,as ally is no longer available , or very rare..
