I got a price on 400mm dia x 100 Fallshaw wheels today. The quoted price was $65.00 plus GST plus freight. How much have you fellas paid for wheels and where did you get them? What have you paid for a Fallshaw wheel of the same size? Are there any other wheels suitable for a L/S? Any info will be most appreciated.

I got a Fallshaw for $30.80 from Adelaide Merchandising without a tire. I think it was about $33 with tire but you'd better check. They were the cheapest I found in Adelaide for Fallshaws.

admerch.com.au/

Mullins wheels (trade as CSA) sell a Taiwanese version for $25 per wheel including tire which are not quite the same quality but seem to spin as true and are made from the same thickness steel. Wheel part number 660-205 tire 670-250.

Once Paramount Browns had them in a discount bin for $18.00 complete.

In all you'll need to replace the bearings with better quality deep groove bearing for about $14.00 each. Gardner Bearings sell them, part number EE9-2RS-JAP. (unless of course you use the new "Kody Bearings" )

Obviously this is all in SA.

Kody, I can only offer similar advice to Hillsie, as far as purchase goes, being from Sleepy Hollow as well.
However, Paramount Browns have a variety of wheels with mounted tyres in size range to suit LS. Some are solid rims others are "split" rims. If you look on their web site, it may be viable to mail order. They are mostly very reasonable $, $30 and under, incl. tyre and tube, they do usually have the plastic rim (incl.t&t) 4.00x8 as featured on some photos of LY from WA (seabreaze LY photo).
Trailer and chassis part supply and manuf. may have alloy rims to fit directly to stub, and/or your hub. Mini mags, original 10" may be available.
Motorcycle wreckers will have a variety of 16" and 18" alloy motorcycle front wheels.
Do not know your circ. in CQ, hope this is food for thought?

Enmach Industries here in Bundaberg have plastic 6" wheels and tyres same spec as blokart wheels but not branded blokart. I believe they come from the same factory as blokart wheels from Tauronga in NZ.

Enmach get them for their plastic moulded garden trailers for attaching to ride on mowers.

They come fitted with either 4.00-6 (as fitted to blokarts) or 15 x 6.00-6 tyres. The tyre brand they use is Deestone (from Thailand) which have a tough long lasting compound and seemingly heavier ply, however they do need to be balanced.

The Deestones aren't as uniformly moulded as the Deli (from Indonesia) tyres as fitted to blokarts.

The quality of the wheels is very good and take 6202 bearings. I buy the cheap Chinese or Tiawanese brands for about $2 each from BSC. For our purposes they are just as good as the $35 stainless bearings. The bearings need to be spaced apart with a sleeve which needs to be no less than 54mm long.

The important thing here of course is that the ends of the sleeves need to be dead square and parallel so that the bearings are perfectly aligned.

Of note here is Brian Reynolds comment that sometimes worn bearings are better as they tend to self align. Considering the use of plastic hubs, this to me sounds like a good idea.

I noticed last year at the Titles at Yeppoon that some of the competitors were using what appeared to be the open pressed metal bearings as used on wheel barrows. One would assume that they would need to be flushed out after every race.

By the way, I get the wheels from Enmach for $50 each with the smaller tyre and $55 with the larger tyre. Cheers, Cisco.

PS. For Fallshaw type wheels, if you have a LARGE Bunnings store nearby, check it out for wheels. Some of the Bunnings and other hardware outlets have a big stock of wheels at very reasonable prices.
