how critical is overall weight? (landyacht + pilot) at this time am enjoying a 20 pound weight advantage, consistently run a couple mph faster than my buddy. rigs are same dimensions, same sail area (4m). is twenty pounds a big difference?

I think weight is just one of the things that can hold you back
Blokarts have weight racing classes in their one design racing so obviously it has a large effect and they are trying to make the racing more level
Most people think the wheels and tyres are where it has the most effect
I would be interested like you if anyone has some definite answers and figures

on the lighter days , crazy trav will get in my yachts and tweek an extra kph or 2 out of them , when the wind gets stronger, the advantage shifts, getting that in between wind is very hard.
thats one of the nice things about having the GPS to help you judge what is whatwe have a weight difference of about 10kg most of the time, but also crazy T is also shorter.
PS , got absolutely flogged by a wooden axle mini today pilot is 10 kg lighter too. then little stig jumped is SOS and cracked a 33.5

Well I will put my ten Cents worth in here.
Weight is one of those things that is a trade off thingy. Less weight faster in light winds or the lighter the winds you can sail. More weight is proportionally the opposite. Where as one can't sail in too lighter winds one will spend more time on 2 wheels in higher winds. I am having just those problems with Occum's Razor at the moment. It would seem that the winds are neither your Ass nor your Elbow. Either you have to fight to keep moving or fight to stay upright. "Stay Upright" now there is a WISH that would seem to fit many of our members as we are getting to be Old Farts.

"Stay Upright"

going to do a very accurate weigh up of both machines and pilots. 20 lbs is pilot difference for sure. just seem to be quicker in all conditions.. . had the grass yachts out friday and recorded a top speed of 77kph on asphalt, and exhibited both this weekend at local makers fair. lots of interest, hope it inspires someone.
