About time too!!! At this rate Santa's going to receive a very nasty accident...
we have all been dodging this item in the front yard, carport etc for months, holding back with the anticipation (not really but we do like to let Gizmo believe we support all his wacky ideas). The bubbly is on ice for Gizmo's big moment!!!

Well here is one for this thread, the completion of this project has been put on the back burner for the moment.
Well how about a Cardboard LLMini seat, the cardboard was from TV / Fridge boxes built over a timber frame and then glassed. (the timber was then removed when resin was set)
At the moment it has a layer of glass top and bottom, holes cut but still needs another layer both sides to finish it off.

Pardon the pun. That is thinking out of the box. Great idea and when smoothed off and painted should look fantastic.

What is the little hollow in the front left for? Looks about the size for a handheld GPS.

Also noticed the slots in the side which look like grab handles.

Come on tell us more.

I most definetely want to have a go, it is my reward for having to side step this project for months ie squeeze my car into the carport....one small step for Gizmo one huge step for Mrs Duck!!!

But infact the other project I've been working on is another Mini the same size as a LLMini / Blokart.
The "ATOM" is a A frame yacht that could be made as a kit form the length of the various tubes could be changed in the building process and a class5 yacht could be made from the same kit. The seat will be a high strength tarp material.
The other different thing about the yacht is a "no moving parts" steering the rubber joining strip is a section of 4WD tyre.
The mast step is not yet finished but it will give you some idea of how it will work.
The rig will be the same as a LLMini .
Im happy to answer any questions.....

Me thinks that sometimes re-inventing without a reason is a tad pointless? Or, it ain't broke, maybe I won't try to fix it? Or???
Then again progress sometimes comes from over beyond the boundary of the field beyond the one far over to the left!
Certainly different Giz!

Nice! Good to see some odd landyachts. I have to say that using a piece of vehicle tyre as a steering joint has my vote so far. I'll be interested to see how that goes.

With regard to the 'Atom' design. As you want to use a 'hammock' style (ie: tarp, canvas, etc) seat, would a builder be able to position the bend in the frame further forward and have a gap between these rails and the rear axle, therefore leaving room for the seat to hang a little? Like the parakart/kite buggies have sometimes. A picture may explain better

EDIT: I think I have misunderstood the term 'A frame yacht' Just ignore the mast step support tubes.

lachlan3556 ...The hamock im wanting to use will be quite firm in tension as i want to get it as high as possible as i want to do some ocean beach sailing and need the clearance for the seaweed and softer sand.
The name ATOM was chosen as it is formed from "A" shapes. Yes other yachts that have mast supports in an A shape are often refered to as an A frame also.

An alternate definition is also......
An atom consists of an electron cloud that surrounds a nucleus. This nucleus contains positively charged protons and electrically neutral neutrons, whereas the surrounding cloud is made up of negatively charged electrons....... maybe a bit like seabreeze

Gizmo, you have done it again. This is looking like a very very good home builders project. The rubber steering is a brain snapper. The steel work on that looks like it could be lightened and still be just as strong as needed.

As far as I can see the only machine work required is the drillling of a number of holes.

Can you give us a close up of the rear clamps and an explanation of the mast step?

The mast step looks like it will collect a huge amount of debris. Would sandwich plates do the job better than box sections?

Cisco the overall weight despite the extra main tube will be about the same as a LLMini as there is no wooden seat to add. The mast step needs to be cut down a bit which will reduce it slightly.
If this was to be made into a kit form yacht the only drilling req. would be 4 x 10mm holes for the steering bracket to the spine A frame tubes and 2 x 6mm holes for the rear stub axles.
The mast step could be mounted above or below the spine tube, im going below as it will get the rig lower, it puts the mast step 50mm below the A frame and also be protection for the sailors rear end. Overall it still gives the yacht 100mm clear ground clearance. The mast step is able to move forward and back +/- 150mm by adjusting the position and U bolts to get the CE / CR balanced, the mast rake could also be changed the same way using rubber spacers.
The clamps for the main axle are made similar to the clamps on "Wildfire" which worked well. If you wanted to make it as a class 5 the rear axle would be scaff tube which would use the same clamps.
Here is a pic of how it works... 2 clamps, 1 spacer nut and the bolt (only finger tight at the moment) the finished yacht will use high tensile bolts.

oh well you cant deny the thumbs up.
Mrs duck has been awarded best landsailing idea of the year. I'll assume its for her suggestion the gizmo gets his yacht out of the shed and onto a beach
i can certainly see the merit in that
if you PM your postal I will get the award in the post( yes there really is an award)
