I am sure I have seen that the masts for class 5 have to be of aluminium, is that so or just a suggestion??

The masts for promo under the rules state aluminum
The masts for class5 under the rules state metal.

We have started a discussion at WA clubs (at the meet at Lefroy) that we may have to explore other options as the mast material in Australia is now near impossible to get.
Early days on this one and only as a club level.(we don't want to stop class5 because we can not get mast material) There must be a lot hid away in sheds and would help if we could locate them.

A couple of mast around at the moment contain some cold drawn steel elements andeven some fibreglass tops to get the length. last regatta I used a glass boom made from a broken kilwell mast. I have 1 ally boom sitting in france and the other oen I have here was too short for the old sail. Its nothing special, but I had no suitable ally for yet another boom. without any stiffening a glass lower mast section was stiff enough for the job
