Hi everyone,

Just joined the forum today but have been reading for a while now gathering information on landyatching. Some great information on here

Myself and the boys from work have built a landyatch during our spare time. We havent taken it out for a proper sail yet but have gone around the yard a few times on windy days

The yatch itself is 95% built from recycled items. Infact we spent very little money on it all besides some bearings for the wheels and a few other small pieces. Everything else has been collected from roadside pickups.

We started of with a simple frame design...

Added a seat...

One of several sails that i found, that someone had thrown out (sacralige)...

Our first attempt at steering...

Later refined to lose a bit of weight...

And of course saftey first... our three point harness :)

The finished product...

And the action shot

Currently our specs for this landyatch are

Width 2.0m
Length 2.55m
Weight 70kg with sail... yep shes a whale

Happy to hear any comments or suggestions you might have. This one was just built for a bit of fun.

Next using the information from this site we're planning on building a couple of Lefroy Minis for a nearby community group & get some kids interested in landyatching.

Dave.

Excellent effort, could you post the specs and photos in the Landyacht Register. that way the post doesnt get lost over time, and the yacht certainly deserves to be there.
get the boss to move the tyres out of the way for better breeze

Yep!!!..... it appears to me that you have the dreaded "BUG" there Dave , so welcome and become just another "Bugger" doing their stuff, bending iron and pushing it with wind.. Those that don't do it, don't understand.
Met a bloke the other day where my rebuild is taking place, only yesterday infact. My job should roll out the work shop within the next week. This bloke was a little taken back, "hell, he said haven't seen one of them since Vietnam in the 60's. We made a few of them to race along the beach form scrounged materials re dept of armed services." Said they favored the undercarriages of pranged choppers. He reckoned they took their life in their hands, but had a lot of fun.
So it crops up everywhere with all types of people interpreting their own slant on motion, ....... bloody interesting, aint it !!!! Have fun , catch you later
