How do teach someone new how to sail a landyacht?....
We all use different methods.. What have you found to be the best?.....

Ian McLouchlan(?) of IMAC NZ showed me his method . Its the best Ive seen or tried.
He put out 2 cones 50m apart across the wind and had the yachts doing figure 8's .they learnt to tack and Gibe and being more than 1 yacht ,to interact closely.
As they became more comfortable with the speed he moved the cones further apart. the eacher stands in th middle and if he needs to push anyone the go around a cone and roll back to the teacher.
He trained 5 junior actors in 3/4 hour who then went and sailed close stunts towards a camera in a film shoot.

Remember the windless weekend day at Pacrims?? Don and some of the nz guys did exactly the same thing. Put some younguns in the blowies across the few knots of wind there was and them being light had a ball, out and back, out and back etc. Great to see!
I did same with my son(prob 14 at the time), threw him in on the beach in 10kts? and out and back he came, couldn't get him out!!! He had never really sailed in his life.
Put my daughter in a cart at 4yo (about 5kts) , ran behind her until she was a bit more confident, unfortunately hit a cone and tipped over! Sorry Ray, but no damage done to cart or her. At 8yo she zipped across Ivanpah at 30kph with the 5m up!! Me still barking directions half way across the lake.
Best way is put them in and tell them to try and keep it going!! Good luck.

I have to admit the blowie is a great trainer. My youngest was 2 1/2 and jumped in a blowie that had been left unattended. I heard someone scream out and someone was running after the yacht ,so I jumped on my bike, rode over an yelled out" pull in the rope and chase me ". She did
