I guess I've been conspicuous by my absence but I'm still here. I have just got over a six week dose of pneumonia which included a short stay in hospital. It was six weeks of intense coughing, vomiting and pain. I ended up with a hernia from the coughing but all that was easy to handle compared to what happened next. Our beloved Kody has been very seriously burnt with caustic soda at a house in town, (it's a long story) nearly three weeks ago. All the pads and tissue of her feet and toes has gone. She has suffered so much pain and suffering that when we dressed her feet every evening, Cindy and I broke done in floods of tears. I have never seen such damage from chemical burns. Thru it all, Kody has kept total faith and trust in me and I have been able to treat her wounds when no-one else was able. The Vet had to sedate her and administer a drip for the first two days. After lots and lots of TLC, our precious Kody is starting to heal. All four paws, her mouth, tongue and nose were burnt, her feet being the worst. It will still be at least another five or six weeks of continuous care before she has fully healed. She is also able to now walk a few steps with her feet heavily bandaged but I have to carry her outside to "empty out". At last she is also able to eat a normal meal and she loves drinking milk and lots of water. We still shed our own tears as we continue to bandage her feet and nurse her back to health. To understand it all, I guess you need to have a beautiful dog that has carved a special place in your heart
Hi Susan Kody feet are finally starting to heal. She is able to walk on the lawn but trying to run hurts badly. I no longer have to bandage her feet but I am watching them very closely. I bathe them with strong salt water in the mornings and before she goes to sleep at night. The salt water seems to be promoting the healing and firming up the new skin tissue. Kody is bored out of her brain and wants to be with me all the time. She also loves to climb onto our bed and sleep between Cindy and me. She moves to the end of the bed in a few minutes as she gets too hot. It's so hard to say "no" to her as she has been in so much agony and pain. At least she is spotlessly clean and has stopped moulting. Her mouth has been very painful for her and also her tongue. I had to hand feed her as she was unable to lap. She would take great mouthfuls of soft food from my hand and just swallow it down. Eating is still a bit painful for her but she can eat without being hand fed. She is very bright and even tho she is bored, she is very lively and wants to play. We will be so glad and so thankful when she is fully healed. Many thanks for asking how she is, it is most appreciated.
