Boy, this is out of the blue all of a sudden. I think I would be somewhat peeved if I was going to Patagonia (not that there was ever any hope) and then having a week to get ready for the Nationals.
As it is I wouldn't be able to arrange more holidays (I go back to work next Monday) in time anyway. I suspect there is probably good reason for the short notice but just putting in my two bobs worth...

Yes it does seem out of the blue and yes it will be hard for those of us who have spent 2 years working on going to Patagonia for the WC08 to then come back and try to get further time of work and find the $ so very soon after to travel interstate for a Nationals announced 2 months out, However we have been calling for a Nationals to be called for over 18 months so I am not about to complain. I hope that ALL clubs will receive official notification in the very near future to word can be sent out to all members.

When the powers that be in ALSA get an opportunity can we please have a day by day program posted, in particular start times of the 1st day and finish times on the last day. This will help those with long distances to come in their planning.

It would also be good to see the ALSA AGM also on the program and perhaps an agenda of items to be discussed so these can be discussed with club members prior to leaving?

One last request please... which classes will be racing?

cheers Promo Girl

Back the truck up, Heccles!!

These are valid requests, not advice on how to run it. Don't forget non ALSA members are invited and who knows, just maybe they will be a member club before too long.

It was also a very polite request at that.

Hear Hear Mr Hills, this is THE land yachting/sailing forum of Australia, not parliament house Canberra. A Phd in rudeness is a prerequisite for entry into that less than hallowed house.

Are we not all friends united by a common passion that those alleged "Honourable Members" could NEVER understand.

Let us leave the aggravation and denigration to the pithy pollies while us rebellious rogues get on with the things in life that really matter in a spirit of brotherhood.

Hang on that's sexist and so is sisterhood. How about " siblinghood ".

Naah, let's just be HOODS.

I fully agree Stevo and I humbly appologise for allowing myself to be drawn into it. It won't happen again!!

This forum was started with the intention of being a place to promote the sport and share technical information. This type of infighting goes against that.

I think as the newly formed "Aus online landyachting community" we should apply some self moderation and stick only to the positive side of the sport and discourage this type of behaviour.

Its great to post info regarding ALSA rules and class specs but any debate regarding these should be limited to the formal channels between the clubs and ALSA.

Perhaps we should create a thread with agreed guidlines for posting here and ask Laurie to make it a sticky. If anyone posts inappropriately we should not respond and just hit the thumbs down voting button on that post.

What are others thoughts?

Other forums have terms and conditions posted as a sticky and anybody who steps out of line gets their post(s) deleted by a moderator, or in extreme cases banned altogether.

This forum is no different, and bannings/deletions are a regular event (unfortunately)

We scan most of the posts, and usually people work stuff out themselves .. occasionally some someone loses it and gets far too serious!

If you vote a post with the thumbs down it immediatelly brings it to the attention of the moderators, and of course offers visual feedback to the poster of others opinion of their post.

Enjoy!

Thanks Bazz, good to see someone from SLYC is flying the flag. Are you going to cross the Rabbit Proof fence in March?

Long story but not this time, went last year though. Should be a good turnout, I hope it goes really well and expect there to be bigger and better regattas to come. Already working on getting to the next one

It will be great once we get the stage of being able to plan a national calander 12-24 months in advance. Then if you know you can't get to the next one you might only have 6 months to wait before getting another crack at it. Initially I could invisage proposed regattas being listed as our club will host a regatta in xx month this year, your club xxx and another club xxxx, dates and finer details can be filled in as you get closer to the time. Different clubs also have different prefered times for running regattas due to local weather conditions and patterns. Having some forward planning would allow those that need to save and apply for holidays great opportunities. Wow maybe one day we could even have a circuit....oops perhaps I should not have had that last glass of red tonight...getting a tad carried away

quote]
I think we should all be proud of what the few here on this little forum have achieved in only a few months.
new venues that we all now know about............
new clubs that we all now know about..........
Recent events that we all now know about...........
upcoming events ............
classes that were almost forgotten............
locations for products and test results by users...........
new sailors..........

I feel personally inspired by the whole process.
Even when we do disagree strongly we have the advantage of sitting back so others can get their 2 bobs worth. this is something that has rarely been achieved at formal face to face meetings by especially landsailors. in the past.
I have personally walked out of one or two meetings because the personalities involved made the meeting pointless . I would rather go sailing at those times.
Reality dictates that if the sport is to thrive we have to get things off chests ,out in the open for others to judge, over and done with, etc .
What a great place to do just that. we can do it at night without it cutting into our sailing time, and that has to make everybody happy .

On a more challenging note I've entered in class 5 and Class 6

Never been a problem at a nationals in the past. Given the interest from blokarters, minis, the 6?new PHEONIX yachts and maybe some of the cl6 and minis sailing with SAILS in SA. There should easily be enough yachts to warrant the 2 classes racing separately.Different classes race one after the other in order. this allows the keen yacht owners like yourself to bring more yachts and race in multiple classes.. this has always been the norm at US,NZ and AUST competitions. ALSA became quite good at it.
If there are only 2 classes you would race 3 races in a class then the next fleet lines up for its 3 races. this gives an opportunity for the less fit /keen sailors to have a break and actually watch a race.. If you are racing 2 classes you just have to be fit and quick..
This is one of the things that made the Pacrim events so popular with sailors from all over the world.
If you have the numbers in 3 classes, say 5,6 and open then normally you would race 1 race per class in rotation. VINDICATOR is a bit to unwieldy for taking to SA and my other open class needs some work on the wheels, bearing, which I dont have time to do, so I didnt bother to enter that class. I think it may be a year or 2 before the big yachts start to come out of mothballs. Once you start to sell a few STANDARTS ( which will fit nicely into OPEN CLASS and be very competative)I hope we will see the big fleets back.
I was hoping to race against you in your PHEONIX as well as a 5

+1 and ditto

There seems to be a resurgence in Australian landsailing as a whole which would indicate an optimistic outlook in the longer term. We have already seen keenness shown by new sailors, return to sailing by former sailors, new clubs formed, a national titles which hasn't been run for a while and the launch of an Australian landyacht manufacturer all in a relatively short period of time. This can only mean good things in my view.

That's great to hear guys!!

There's still a way to go though, changing some old attitudes or just waiting for them to retire. We've all got the choice of making landyachting go in one of two directions. I'm hopefull we can all make the right choice.

I'm a complete newbie to this sport and I know some of my sailing mates would already be back on the div 1 boats by now if they'd ventured into landyachting. At times I've been sorely tempted myself.

Lets all adhere to Laurie's posting guidlines, especially rules 2, 4 & 6

Looks like a fair contingent from the west will get there after all, plan is for at least 6 yachts so far. Word has it that the current title holder will probably be defending the trophy too so competition should be hot!

the classes of the yachts are there , Having been envolved in the blowcart thing the step up is a real eye opener, the speed and the control is fantastic, plus you can do development with in the rules . rather than what some manufacturer will dictate what you can do and cant, will be good to see some of the blowcarts down at Gilles this year as there is a mini yacht class go hard do what you can that is the whole idea But you will have to race against others in that class .
