Hello, my name is Jim and I'm from the Las Vegas, Nevada area. I've seen some of this landsailing when I was younger but took up jumping out of airplanes instead. I do a lot of reloading, bullet swaging, and of course shooting. I have done a small amount of sailing on some hobie cats, so not a lot of saiing experience. I had a renewed interest in landsailing watching some a few weeks ago on one of the dry lake beds south of Vegas. I have been reading everything in the Construction and Sail Making threads for about the last week or so. My plan is to build a class5 type yacht as my first to learn to sail on. When I start getting my materials I will post my builds progress. I thank you all beforehand for all your threads and posts because you have all covered everything I can imagine for now. I will save up for some real questions later though. Jim

Hi Jim, be mindful that class5 have EXTREMELY tight specifications and if you're just a little bit out on even one of them you have built a dud.....

Maybe building a Mini 5.6 may be better for a first build as the specifications are much looser and perhaps more suited for the home builder.

Thanks for the welcome, the sites, and nothing is set in stone yet. I just liked the looks of the class 5 builds. They are within reach in my garage and a lot of the fun is rolling your own.

Is that the Delamar dry lake up east of Alamo. If so I was hunting up in there last for mule deer. Also, does your size matter much in your build type. I am 6'3" at 220lbs. I'm not in a big rush yet for the build. Working lots of hours now. Just looking for materials at the moment, of the free kind

spoken like any true leadcaster / swager and reloader

welcome to another addiction, but just like loading your own ammo - it wont save you money,
it just gives you more reasons to spend more to "supposedly" save money.

I am nearly 250lbs. A big boy no doubt! but following the advice of Gizmo I am concentrating on building as light and as plain of a chassis as I can. Right now my complete rear axle weighs 28 pounds Or 12.7 kilos.
