question to hills
another thought- it would be worth while to include Wt of yacht (in your case you said it took 2 to lift it on to roof racks, where at 30kg for a class 6 it would take one) and if it is in the construction section.
Class - V Pacific Magic
Length - 2.5m (axle stub to axle stub)
Width - 2m
Mast Ht - 5.2m
Approx sail area - 5.5sqm
Weight - xx.x kgs
Location - Adelaide
Sail Number - AUS 50
Built by - David Rose and myself.
See under - Land yacht sailing construction Pacific Magic construction photos

(I didn't know how to put in the link. A link would be the better way)
Is the swift yours as well?

comment to lachlan
great engineering feat when you consider the static compression force at the base of the mast on a paper tiger to fly a hull is 750kg this is without considering shock loading. when i was racing we went from a wire dolphin striker (as per plans) to a solid s/s strap as we were stretching the wire to much and ripping the rear pads out of the hull.

Good idea, unfortunately I can't edit my post now. I haven't weighed mine, but I believe they're about 50kg. The class V specs dictate they have to be over 50kg fully rigged.

No the swift is yet to be released onto the market. Dave Webster (owner of Phoenix Landyachting) is the designer and builder. He informs me the first few are already destined to go overseas. See his website for more info.

iand: Thankyou for your compliments. To be honest it wasn't a forethought, the first time we riged it the frame bellied almost to the ground when we sheeted in, so a wire (~6mm steel rod) brace was added which cleared that problem up entirely. Thanks for the loading value (750Kg), didn't have a clue what we were up against

Excellent entry with the Blokart, showing a commercial model and some of the extra gear available (the only thing left would be the shadow and sail sizes ?). The photos for me would be the best I've seen for detail. Thanks for putting it in the register I was hoping someone would enter a Blokart they own and heres hoping for a X sail owner.

Thanks iand, I made the post at hillsy's prompt and because while a land yacht might not be a blokart because of the one design nature of a blokart, a blokart IS a land yacht and there is no disputing that fact.

Re:- X-Sail. I do not believe one has entered the country yet except for a Chinese version owned by Barak in Mackay. Try emailing him through this site as I believe he is/was a registered user on this site.

By the way, a weekend of land sailing fun is planned for the the 23rd and 24th of this month at Yeppoon. A bunch of the guys from Mackay are travelling down and I plan to go up too. From a land sailing point of view the beach there will blow your mind. These guys like night sailing too as do I.

The council owned caravan/camping park is on the beach and the edge of the town. A great spot for us types. For names and phone no's of the Mackay Crew go to www.blokart.com.au and click to the forum and click around there. They are a great bunch of people.

If you are free to do it and have the time, you are welcome to stop off here in Bundy on the way up or back or both. We have room to accommodate yourself and up to four of your tribe. No problem. If you want to hook up, email me through this site for exchange of phone no's. Put cursor on "Members"(top of page), click "My Messages", click "Send Private Message", address to "cisco", type message and click "Send". You said you were still trying to figure out some things on the site ie photos etc so I hope that helps.

Cheers Cisco.

Board: 740X200 - old skateboard
Wheels:Front: 10X3 Rear:13X6.5
Sails: 2.9-5 3.5 prefered.
Rear mudguard is an old tyre and can be used as a break.
see... google video:Jesses landboard
I have o admit that the brake thing was rather clever,I wouldnt have thought of it. My brain gets to the break bit and simply says "tradition demands that you dont stop[}:)]" then I just dont design one.
Well done guys

Question for aus230 regards the wind flyer- Do you think the lack of height is due to the mast rake and/or the forward position of the pilot or some other factor ?

The break idea was as a means of preventing the boy from jamming his foot between moving tyre and a hard place. ie: the board and steel chassis.
Aas the board is short, one jams / braces his feet between the mast foot and rear mud guard, the mud guard's breaking ability was a bi-product that works well for off-road down hill skate boarding.

Hi Ian
From what I can find out, From Bob Dill who has sailed a wind flyer back in USA told me that the flyer that he sailed would not point high but was very fast (wally the designer reckonds that he got 72mph out of his rig) I have only manager 55mph out of mine.
The big plus for the flyer is it can out corner just about anything and I can still sail in winds that I would consider unsafe in my class 5
It can also sail in very light winds by using larger sails.(one of mine is 10mt)

Bad points

Takes a while to set up
No class to race in
Does not tack very high.(tried laying the mast back but this resulted in loss of handling.) the wind surfer sails could also be causing the problem as they are very full .

when vics windlyer was first on the lake the speed comparison was really obvious. Wee Wee Wee could actually sail around and around the flyer in less than 10knts.when vic got some bigger sails we stayed out of his way as his mast bases strted overloading.
the great think I liked about the windflyer was that I could watch one sail, see lots of changes made to it,and it cost me nothing. Having seen all vics efforts , I can think of no good reason to build one. Sorry Vic ,your efforts and work on the yacht were fantastic, but Im sure you'd agree the 5 would be better value for money and effort.

Hi Paul.
I have to defend the wind flyer ,as you say It was very slow at first (could have been me as it was my first time I had ever sat in a land yacht and did not have a clue as to what I was doing) I had a lot of breakages as I have with my class 5 but managed to overcome them all. If there where 6 or so wind flyers around I would still love to race one. I guess I will not use it much as I am enjoying developing my class 5, But if anyone wanted to build a flyer to just have fun in I would have to say that it is a great yacht for that.
Cheers
Vic

How it the lake going will it be OK for the long weekend.

How do you find your class 5 compares to the Sandgroper Club 88, Pacific Magic,Promo and any others you have come across.
Is this your own design and/or what is it called

Hi Ian
It is comparable with the class5 and promo, what I have found is that the club88 can sail in lighter wind conditions than my yacht. In medum conditions it goes well.
My yacht is a little heaver (68kg) than the club88. This could be the reasion.
I am building a new class 5 to get the weight down.
AUS230 was coppied from the New Zealand class5 with their help. The seat is my own designe built from wood (strip built) I think most of the extra weight is from this area.
Cheers

Thanks for the addition to the register Landyacht. I really like that seat design For some reason I can't help but think it looks Starwars style for some reason, maybe its the red and white

Its also worth saying that I have now seen a miniyacht that looks like itwas built and ought to be racing! Nice work and I hope its goes faster than the wind

Gday Landyacht. Whats the chassis of 'Ankle Biter' made from, drill tube or gal fencepost material?

it was from drill tube but you could do the same from galv. there is about a 10mm difference in the diameter of the tubes that you will have to factor in, so if your using Galv it will pay to do some full size drawings of the front and rear ends to check your ground clearance
