The planned Nationals at 90 mile beach this weekend coming have been cancelled, lack of confirmed entries. 3 class 3's and 4 class 5's was the total so the decision was made to save people travelling that far to have a combination of the results from 3 other events decide the "champions".
The 4 class 5s were all (as advised) to be from Ohope club and that's the best part of a day's drive away from the "magic 90".
The 3 events to be used now are; this weekend (Sunday only I understand) at Kariotahi south of Auckland, "Guy Fawkes Blast" at Ohope on the Friday and Saturday around the 5th November, and another date at the top end of Muriwai, about an hour north of Auckland (4 wheel drive only).
Personally, total travel time now goes to 35 hours (+ 2 days off work). Worst scenario for previous for "furthest traveller" 18. Previous "furthest traveller" will now spend about 5 hours each way to Kariotahi each way, almost none to home venue, then about 7 each way to Muriwai + time to get up the beach.
I wonder why Blokarts get lots of people

Yes it is sad there are not enough landsailors to make the trip up to 90mile beach worth while. The only thing 90 Mile Beach has going for it is length, but then we set out a 2km coarse for racing??? The organises made the right decision.
The other venues mentioned were scheduled anyway, so there is no extra traveling.
I wouldn't exactly call 90mile "magic" either. I am sure the Aussies that came over here for that 96 PacRim would agree with me. Most times I have been there it is not much wider than our local Ohiwa beach.

Ohiwa Beach

Class 5 start 2008 OBSS Blast
Ohiwa (and Ohope) are much smoother and just as hard as 90Mile beach.
Come down and see for yourself Rhys. I will see if I can find a competitive OTT for you to sail.
