there are many who have used uncut W S , I have used several over the years ,If used on the correct mast,and downhauled properly they are perfectly usable without all the bother of cutting and restitching,
Because they need to be downhauled first,the bend is already present and therefore a lot less effort on the hands you are only sheeting the rig in without the strain of also dowhauling at the same time. There are gains and losses (MY opinion only) The gains,...........
Modern WS sails are by far more stable,they are a solid foil. therefore you can use a larger sail in any given wind so more sailing time.They tend to point higher and on a beam reach are a bit faster(See solid foil,stable and larger) Lots available second hand. The losses.....
Bit of a faff on rigging and downhauling.tend to have a higher end boom(can be solved by adding a section on the clew)
They are certinly a bit slower as you come off a beam reach onto broad or run
Each to thier own of course,I'll still b using my 7.5m on light wind days but feellike sticking to the class five rules for a change.Gives others a chance to keep up with me
