Did anyone see the item on Sailing the Sahara with kite buggies on channel 7 Sunday Night program?
Interesting trip but at times a little fool hardy......

Yes interesting but tending toward the base jumping type mentality. It is dangerous, it is fun and I could be killed but at least I died doing something I love.

I am just not quite with that one.

yep I had a bopeep and thought that
1.....Maybe their buggys should have had suspension, Some of the bumps i witnessed will hurt them in later life.
2.....To do well in an adventure such as they took on i really think there should be a two man cart, one to steer and keep a look out ahead for problem terrain and the other to pilot the kite, head up into the sky, to me this is better science.
3.....What i saw on tv said to me that the kites used were overpowered, i didn't see anyone struggling for motive power, i saw people being hammered by unrelenting, untamable, uncontrollable power.
4......I saw a backup crew that was so overloaded with gear that they had trouble traversing the terrain. 4x4's have a weight where they are really no longer functional in the terrain where they are being used. The work load needs to be lighter and the only way that this can be done is to have more support vehicles and less trailers, which act as sand anchor's in that type of country.
Having said that, it was, interesting to say the least

I caught the program too, taped it in the hope it was a really good story. Im a little dissapointed it wasn't longer and there weren't many details as to the actual sailing trip (ie: some footage of them sailing elsewhere except the beach). I guess its lucky it even got air time.

Still, now I want a kite and buggy!

No way I'd do it without a motorbike helmet though, especially over rough terrain.

Hi Lachlan. I think it WAS lucky to get air time. If you like the kite buggies because of their rough terrain capability, have a look at the Ludic here www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=50593
before you build or buy a kite buggie.

Kite buggies can be quite lethal as exampled in the TV article. There are lots more examples of kite buggie calamities on You Tube. There have been several deaths of kite buggiests.

I would hate to see you come to an untimely end.

I agree Cisco, much more dangerous. I wasn't thinking of swapping over to kite buggying. Just looked like something that would be worth a try one day, and not over rough terrain (at least until I was extremely good, so maybe never).
