Gidday,

Just a few shots taken on my walkabouts by passers by, I have no camera. Life to me is good when the breeze blows. I can make way on a "willy willy", and fly on the wind. My greatest nemesis is the bush fly, my love is the interaction of the people.

Cheers.....Joe

thanks blokes for the comments and encouragement. a present I am having modifications preformed, to be a little more kind to my age. Choppin the width from I mtr to 750mm, putting a six wheeled undercarriage, working the same principals as a road grader, I steered one of these for too many years [pilbara-far west nsw etc]. An as I am now a little less game ,I am adding disc brakes, then I can really enjoy the downhill [}:)] cheers lifes a never ending adventure ...joe

gidday Gizz, in answer to your query one word NO. Many have stopped and talked at length, all seem a little awe struck. I am very aware of what i must do while on the road re safety. Police have asked me to stop in towns and talk to young school kids, show them something different. I have had the cart on a trailer parked in Adelaide and Mr and Mrs plod have passed by in their patrol car ,and you can tell by the look on their faces that they will be back. Within 5 mins after circling the block they pull up behind you, just to find out what is it. Mind you, I don't set out to create ill feeling, however i will argue my right to be upon the road, same as a horse and cart. I do not class it as a land yacht but as a mobile memorial to some friends departed. Other old codgers with names beginning with "BOB" and it was called "a couple of Bob's worth" [2/- worth] now after the update I will change its name to " A Few Bob's Worth" [3/- worth]. On SA motor registry site a land yacht is described as having 3 wheels, I have always had 4 and soon it will be six. Maybe i should have a separate heading in this forum, maybe I'm an impostor time will tell...............cheers Joe

gidday Hills,
You mean Golden Kangaroo Class....!! Dont You???? My dream is a 28 seater like the ones used before horse drawn trams on english beaches in the late 1700's. I think ill set it up at Broome and work cable beach to the nuddie beach . I have been many times on your beach at Lake Lefroy usually when there wernt many people there. For some years i was regularly in the area I always included the lake in my itinery, it helped to keep my interest and i borrowed a few how-to ideas, probly some of yours

B_B Gidday
I have a home base now days but did live out of the car for a few years, leaving it behind for a couple o weeks then hitching back to move it on. When the wind dont blow, well one only needs a slight rustling of the leaves to obtain movement. I love willy willys. The dust devil [}:)] we see is not a real indication of how much air is moving.
The all up weight was about 500kg but i am now trimming that down to around 300. The hardest thing is to set only the sail that one [I/me] can handle, at the start of the day. Quite often it is only be the self furling jib doing the work. This is critical to me as i have artificial shoulders and although it looks as if i have strong arms, they are in reality equal to butterfly wings, fairly useless. It could be a big mistake to be caught with too much sail set. It will not come into irons like a boat. Its a humbling equation Man must always be in control,Hilly ranges are dangerous and best transported over
On a good day i have sailed over some fairly undulating ground although i avoid big hills, if i can, but i will bludge a tow to the top of something and sail down the other side. There has been some slight panic here as i have had , no brakes, then drum brakes, now fitting disc brakes to lower blood pressure. South Aust is good ground as there is mostly a wind/breeze from the sth- sth west so that leaves a lot of ground to travel between the taller hill/ranges.
The further out I go the less traffic i encounter. Northerlies are on the nose so that is considered a rest day. The way the wind goes is the way i want to go. Its a good feeling to confuse people, up one side of the road today , back the other tomorrow, nudge , nude wink , wink.
My whole thing is a social experiment I never really wish to do more than 10-15 k per day. Once i did 22 and couldn't walk for a couple of days. Walk and talk, love to yabba with the locals, observe nature, tell stories lie to the tourists, and i write a bit o bull.....thanks for your interest B_B..........cheers Joe

B-B,
I can understand that you havn't seen me, can that be explained by what your on.
In another life I too had my arms around, my tarry legged lover. Up and down this road and that, across that paddock, dirt road then and back, up and down along the west coat, corrugation and dust. Was a real mug, and even owned a trucccck or two in my time. Would also disappear into the mines for a while to build up a bank, the squander it all by buying another truck and subbying . Some men ,like me are slow learners
Drove everything, drove myself mad for years, swapped dozers and graders for road trains, but ended up doing more and liken it less . Then i took on a tye and a uniform and worked the round Australia tourist coach thingo.wasnt much better, same old roads fringe benefits were better.
Progressed to 4x4 and 6wd safaris, such as the canning etc . Now i was sick of people and sickly o driving so once again hid out in the mining industry for a few years.
While I was doing the screw driver thing o I met a bloke pushing a wheelbarrow south roundabout where Marla is now {Bob Handley x sydney] I was envious of what he was doing and committed to memory a thought , that one day I'd like to do that So I did, eventually . Did you meet him?
Now I've scared a few dis-orintated, sleepy, truckies, on clear moonlight nights as I have glided silently along an outback highway. They don't expect to see at sailing boat at that point, at that time of nite. I suspect that they wouldn't even tell their best mates . and certainly they would never admit to themselves, many just stop within a few K's and sleep for an hour or two .
So B-B stay wide awake, cose ill be cumming to a road near you, soon ..real soon. As John Willamson says "The Road Less Traveled" can be the best one to go, and that's backed up by Slim who suggests to "Put Him In The Long Yard"..cheers Joe
