OH Yes! That is the case as I found out last week.. I believe up to three times the wind speed.. I've decided to not go there in 40k winds.. It can get real scary.

It was a topic that was mentioned on the forum some time ago.... but it's a fascinating subject with some wonderful concepts..... What those guys have done is very clever....

Yer Right! Gizmo, It is fascinating and tends to feel odd when a wind vane mounted up front disputes the actual Wind Direction or the Tell Tales hang limp and you are charging down the beach.

Lord Admiral Nelson. Yes Nelson lives up the road from Wynyard. He was stunned when he saw what the Occam's Razor was doing in comparison to the wind, to quote him "I had No Idea". I was stunned to see what a difference flattening out a supposedly fast sail. To quote me "The added power and speed is Awesome". Oh! By-the-way. Nelson is the other Land Yacht sailor who gets around Pegg's Beach.

had a bizarre sail today .
sailing downwind in about12knts the leeward tell tales were all streaming straight back but the windward telltales were all streaming straight forward. Ive never noticed this before. it only happened the once. next leg the wind was stronger and every thing was streaming properly

How far back along the chord are your telltales?

If they're in the front third then the stagnation point might have moved behind them. The wing could have been oversheeted as well.

telltales are 30% back along the chord, so I could have well been oversheeted, sailing almost straight downwind, and the rig self-gybed,which usually only happens with really skinny rigs.
all this happened at 76kph in light winds so she was smokin!
ps Vic maxxis hookworms are now maxxis smoothies after 1 good day on smooth salt

similar thing happened to me as I sailed into the lee of the dunes, as I slowed down , luffed her up a little and bango!!! off she went again, at a little slower speed.

That is surprising about the hookworms, Shows how much the surface dictates how much tire wear there is. Mine have lasted 3 seasons so far. Lost one the weekend, hit a star picket on one if the outcrops at the lake.

Were you out in the new yacht, Have you any idea what weight is on your front wheel. I have just made alterations to my 5 as I think it was far to heavy at the front(18kg) The yacht has been a lot slower this year since I moved the mast post forward a 100mm last year. So yesterday I moved it back to where it was 2 years ago. It is now 10kg at the front.
cheers

this set has polished all the rough stippled surface off, yet the salt was really smooth as it rained on friday.
maybe go for13kg?.
a good check is to see if the yacht will self steer upwind. if it goes down wind, move mast forward till it almost stops?
