according to a book i am reading called "Knights + Theodolites", a saga of surveyours by F.M> johnstone. later surveyour general of national mapping aust. Arriving at Carnarvon maybe 1920 . " we were met by a wheeled cart running on rails on the wharf [fishermans]. Sail powered/assisted and we clocked 20mph, long wharf. this was used as transport. page 196

Hi Joe and Happy New Year to you. That is very interesting about the Carnarvon wind driven carriage. The old original jetty was very long as the water shallows gradually, it was knocked about by many cyclones and fires over the years and when I was seagoing in 60's as an elect engineer in the WA State Shipping Service we chopped more off it each time we berthed!! The tides and wind were very unkind at times. Must just about be the first original landyacht in WA..wok

It would be nice if someone over that way or passing thru Carnarvon would do the rounds of the associated agencys to see what facts they could dig up i.e. historical society, museum and probably the fishing co that now runs that wharf ....could be gold !!
