Has anyone a proven reason/ opinion that yott perform better than flat Y frame,been looking at my old fed5 flat Y and thinking about converting to OTT. I can see that the pod being lower may be advantageous but mine is already pretty low and sometimes scarily fast in strong winds.Looks like most competitive users are now building YOTTs must be some reason.Or maybe just the latest fashion

My understanding is that the yott frame came about due to the restrictions on matierials that class 5s could be built from
The frames could only be built from metal tubes so the way to get suspension was to make the rear tubes longer
A bonus was slinging the pod and pilot underneath and lower.
Shaking a sail is not good for consistant airflow and propulsion.
Could be wrong but that's how I understand it

yes Hiko can see that,just use it for pleasure,not competitive ,might just fit ski axles and see what difference it makes

I have found Ski axles to be very good on my minis [doubled up] also just pleasure sailing

when I built my last mini the rear axles went from the mast to the wheel. Toooooo long !!!!!!!!! on a rough surface they were great as the energy they were storing is getting dissipated on the bumps, but on a smooth salt surface the energy would build up and have a jumping frog effect that would randomly throw the yacht into the air at speed on a downwind blast. the longest i would build would be axles at 90 degrees to each other
