Suspect the answer is that it has been in the tropics for some time.

Very nice! One would need to take a good wooden boat shipwright with you

It would be no different to looking at a fiberglass boat except there is no chance of osmosis. Soft spots possible under the cockpit etc from freshwater but they will be easy to see and rectify. Triple skin Kauri and epoxy is seriously good.
I have asked the owner for more pictures of the cockpit area etc. When I said adventure up North I was referring to sailing her South!

You only have to get it as far as Brisbane, drop it off with BOTY for a few months!

My wife says no!
The owner got back to me just now. He is ill and has to retire from sailing. Work that's required to get sailing.
"Work to be completed to reach harbour sail condition New roller furling genoa New boom vang and some minor upgrade of deck fittings New propeller and possibly shaft Antifouling Topside painting".

Only one that matters there is prop and shaft.
Rest is nothing.
it will be a motor sail home unless you are going west about
I can give you some headsails
just might need some hanks.
Someone has to save it sitting up there before the next summer.

Or the truck would be surprising cheap as it is a long straight forward trip and doubt it is that wide to need a full escort.

Just looked up the definition of termagant
noun
1. a harsh-tempered or overbearing woman.
2. an imaginary deity of violent and turbulent character, often appearing in morality plays.

Pedant switch "ON".....

It was Wai Aniwa that was third, in the hands of Bouzaid. He had sold Rainbow II to Bermuda soon after she won the OTC in Heligoland. He then switched to sailing the newer and bigger Carter design Wai Aniwa which was provided by a sponsor, Ray Walker. Wai Aniwa is still sailing and racing in NZ.

Pedant switch "off"....sort of.

Incidentally, one of the accounts of the Kiwi trials for the 1971 One Ton world championships notes that Runaway had been measured just before the trials and had to cut her sail area down dramatically. She performed very well later in the series, as she did at times when chartered to Germany for the world titles.

We have to take it to the judges, but happy to stand corrected as I think you are right and I got it wrong
One source says you are correct but the CYCA record does not list Wia Aniwa as a competitor in 1971.
I will try to dig out an old Race Programme.

Pedant switch off
Cheers Chris
