I nearly fell into a trap today - I'm going for my Coxswains NC ticket and a medical is required by AMSA.
I found out that not all General Practices can do an "AMSA medical". Those that can, charge about $520!

The thing is, for a Coxswains NC an "AMSA medical" is not what is required, only an eye test certificate (form 542) and a medical fitness test (form 559).
www.amsa.gov.au/qualifications-training/domestic-qualifications/coxswain-grade-1-near-coastal#19796Turns out the full AMSA medical is only required for International tickets.
I rang the local GP and told them exactly what I needed, they can do the two tests for just under half the price!

So if anyone is thinking of getting their Coxswains NC ticket, be careful what you ask for when booking with a GP, as they might try and stiff you for the full medical - including chest Xray!
