Wondering what the collective opinion is on aluminium boat's.
Looking at a 45 foot cruiser in queensland but i am thinking they could be quite noisy.
Interested to hear of any experiences had by others

Talked my mate into buying that Cole 42 alloy racer off eBay a few weeks ago and immediately regretted not buying it myself. We sailed it down one night shortly after. Initially it seemed like a really big boat but not so much now. Exceptionally well built. Surprisingly cool inside, maybe the seawater keeps the temperature down. Does not seem noisy unless the Perkins is running then it sounds like a fishing boat! Mate reckons its great to sleep on.

Love Ally boats of done well, mind you you have to be VERY careful with paints, bog and anodes etc.

There is a Lyons 47 down here called Allusive, done so nicely that you wouldn't know she was ally unless you looked inside a cupboard.
Mind you she has teak decks, I HATE cold deck/cockpit seats so having something over them is my preference.

That said I have seen a steel Adams 40 with a glass deck that ran down into the hull as a liner. Made the boat quiter, warmer and no rust on deck fittings!!

Maaaate!! If you have the budget Pilot house/deck saloon mono about 60 to 70 foot long in aluminium with nothing below except a very comfortable sleeping cabin with lounge and ensuite, engine, fuel and water tanks, you will have a yacht that will give you average 15 to 18 knot passages and will out sail any cat for the same dollars.

Wish I could afford a 50ft cat.
How about a seawind 1000. Little smaller than I was originally looking at but does anyone have any experience with them. Would it get me from Brisbane to Darwin and back for instance.
