Does anyone know if the oil pressure transmitter for the gauge (not just the alarm) screws into the same port for the oil pressure alarm sender?
Can a DV 24 have both a pressure alarm sender and a pressure gauge sender wired?
Just bought a boat with a DV24 and it has an oil pressure gauge and a oil pressure alarm light. The oil pressure light works, but the gauge just goes to the end of the scale when powered up. It's hard to get to the back of the dash panel to see if the gauge is wired up.
The engine is leaking oil from an unknown location when running (not when idle) and I'm suspecting the oil pressure is too high.
I've also read bukhs have an oil breather under the rocker cover that can get blocked, leading to over-pressure. I haven't been able to find the oil breather in exploded diagrams of the motor. Does anyone know where it is?
Is the oil leak on flywheel end or gearbox end? Or dripping off sump? If on flywheel end you would likely see oil sprayed everywhere.
They are a bugger to find, again speaking with Taren Point, their suggestion was that there are some small orings/gaskets near fuel pump assembly that are a common oil leak area, or seal between motor/gearbox on drive shaft (little harder). Seal $$ weren't too bad from memory....for Bukh anyway.
Clean it all down, and dust baby powder over motor, fast way to find the source....I never wanted to clean up the baby powder so gave it a miss.
I stopped a minor leak by nipping up the sump bolts, however never found the other main leak....is it the gearbox oil? give it a smell and check colour...
Re: oil breather, I think you mean the oil excess pressure valve, its on LHS behind flywheel (looking at flywheel) from memory, just looks like a 13mm bolt, a bugger to get to when the motor is reverse mounted, and hard to remove the piston below spring (think i used a ezi-out screw remover as piston has a hollow end). I checked mine, couldn't see right down for blockages, however poked around, seemed clear, but still leaked oil. You can add a additional copper washer/gasket to decrease spring pressure....I didn't try this...maybe try? Process is described in Manual page 125 - Lubricating System of Workshop manual..Bukh website
