Sorry if this has been covered before.
Does anyone know what happen to all the yachts anchored in Bum's Bay? I drove past today and was amazed to see that it looks every one has been kicked out.

I stayed in Bums bay in Febuary on my way north for 5 days and there were several boats there that had been there for several years. Obviously flaunting the one week rule. Its an awesome place to anchor with ALL weather protection and access to water and a short dinghy ride to shopping centers, PO, and all that the Gold coast has to offer - Good and bad. When youre cruising the coast you just go thru the seaway then turn left , left and left and you are there.
When there I saw very old and yes they were very ugly houseboats washed up on the banks of "Bums" and nearby fishermans beach, They looked abandoned. The authorities have a responsibility to keep some form of standard of tidiness or appearance and I cant blame them if they want to tidy up the place. However as it almost always happens in situations like these the innocent user will be the one that suffers!
Imagine cruising into the Gold Coast for a victualing stop and having to get a sticker for your windscreen! after presenting your boat for a seaworthy examination? I Guarantee the office that supplies the sticker will be located far from the water! Who gets to determine if your boat is ugly or not? The poo argument is the one used years ago in Sydney harbour but the truth is that all the waterfront houses and commercial boats were the ones that were responsible and the yachties got the blame to the point that to this day it is illegal to live on a boat in Sydney Harbour or anywhere in NSW even though holding tanks are mandatory by law! and imagine the greedy chambers of commerce around the east coast rubbing their grubby hands together with glee now there is a way to extract money from transient yachties or forcing you to stay at an overpriced marina. if the short stay permit or sticker thing works in "Bums" it WILL be adopted by other Authorities .
............... Rant over.

As with all facets of society, there are bums that bum it up for everybody else.
I think there should be better regulations applying to competency for boat ownership.

Further to this topic.
Last Wednesday several teams of police accompanying Maritime Safety Queensland representatives basically raided the two marinas in Bundaberg, boarding vessels, inspecting toilet systems, safety gear and registrations. I think they were also helping deliver the 50 new police cars Bundaberg is getting.
If you refuse them entry to your vessel you will be flagged and cop a hard time from them wherever you go.
It is about cleaning up the water ways and the upshot of it is that if your vessel is reasonable tidy and compliant with the rules, they will leave you alone. If you have a Porta Potti, they seem to be satisfied on the toilet thing.
In the meantime a friend who is with Marine Rescue Bundaberg went to see their new boat being built where he got the word that there is a turf war going on between the state maritime bodies and AMSA.
AMSA wants to rule the roost but MSQ has put their collective butts into gear to show AMSA that their input is not required.
I personally do not like the idea of a bureaucrat in Canberra putting out a set of rules that is supposed to fit all situations.

I grew up as a local down there and this little bay used to be my favourite fishing spot...before they dredged it and pumped all the sand onto the yabbie banks, wiping a lot of them. Fortunately, I have had my fond memories of fishing at dawn and bringing the biggest whiting you can hope for. That's progress I suppose. One persons loss is another's gain. don't spoil it for the next generation though. For that reason I am happy for the clamp down on toilets to go on. People do swim with their kids in that place.
