Sorry if this has been covered before.

Does anyone know what happen to all the yachts anchored in Bum's Bay? I drove past today and was amazed to see that it looks every one has been kicked out.

<div class="story-intro"> CAMERAS are to be installed in the Marine Stadium at The Spit to ensure vessels move on after seven days as part of an overhaul of anchorage rules aimed at cleaning up our waterways.

Gold Coast Waterways Authority chief executive officer Hal Morris said cameras had already been installed at Currumbin Creek and Hollywell for safety reasons and The Spit had been earmarked as the next spot.POO DUMPING DRAMA HITS HOUSEBOATSMr Morris explained that the step was being taken to help authorities enforce the seven-day anchorage limit in Marine Stadium, also known as Bums Bay.“The Marine Stadium was never meant to be an anchorage,” he said.“It was built as a location for water activities and events. “But it is difficult to stop people from staying there because we can’t prove if they have come and gone.”Mr Morris said the marine move-on rules were essential to stop pollution of popular locations like Marine Stadium. His comments come as water-quality issues were exposed by the Bulletin at Hope Island Resort Marina, where tests showed levels of faecal matter up to four times the recommended limit.Berth owners blamed the number of people living aboard houseboats and boats at the marina, who never or rarely left their mooring.Mr Morris said while Marine Stadium was another hot spot on the Gold Coast, the issues with anchorage rules were widespread and the system needed to be overhauled. The Gold Coast Waterways Authority is looking at several options, including introducing a permit system for water users similar to that which exists around the country for National Parks, which would require vessels to be registered before anchoring up.“Possibly this is something that people could sign up for online,” Mr Morris said. “A ticket could be displayed on the windscreen of the vessel.”Mr Morris said that before a permit was issued, vessels would have to pass a seaworthy test — paving the way for authority to get rid of old, ugly and unsafe boats and houseboats.“Questions need to be asked about what we want our waterways to look like,” he said.“Do we want ugly, unseaworthy vessels on the Broadwater?”

Ok own up who on sea breeze has an ugly boat

I stayed in Bums bay in Febuary on my way north for 5 days and there were several boats there that had been there for several years. Obviously flaunting the one week rule. Its an awesome place to anchor with ALL weather protection and access to water and a short dinghy ride to shopping centers, PO, and all that the Gold coast has to offer - Good and bad. When youre cruising the coast you just go thru the seaway then turn left , left and left and you are there.
When there I saw very old and yes they were very ugly houseboats washed up on the banks of "Bums" and nearby fishermans beach, They looked abandoned. The authorities have a responsibility to keep some form of standard of tidiness or appearance and I cant blame them if they want to tidy up the place. However as it almost always happens in situations like these the innocent user will be the one that suffers!
Imagine cruising into the Gold Coast for a victualing stop and having to get a sticker for your windscreen! after presenting your boat for a seaworthy examination? I Guarantee the office that supplies the sticker will be located far from the water! Who gets to determine if your boat is ugly or not? The poo argument is the one used years ago in Sydney harbour but the truth is that all the waterfront houses and commercial boats were the ones that were responsible and the yachties got the blame to the point that to this day it is illegal to live on a boat in Sydney Harbour or anywhere in NSW even though holding tanks are mandatory by law! and imagine the greedy chambers of commerce around the east coast rubbing their grubby hands together with glee now there is a way to extract money from transient yachties or forcing you to stay at an overpriced marina. if the short stay permit or sticker thing works in "Bums" it WILL be adopted by other Authorities .
............... Rant over.

As with all facets of society, there are bums that bum it up for everybody else.

I think there should be better regulations applying to competency for boat ownership.

Further to this topic.

Last Wednesday several teams of police accompanying Maritime Safety Queensland representatives basically raided the two marinas in Bundaberg, boarding vessels, inspecting toilet systems, safety gear and registrations. I think they were also helping deliver the 50 new police cars Bundaberg is getting.

If you refuse them entry to your vessel you will be flagged and cop a hard time from them wherever you go.

It is about cleaning up the water ways and the upshot of it is that if your vessel is reasonable tidy and compliant with the rules, they will leave you alone. If you have a Porta Potti, they seem to be satisfied on the toilet thing.

In the meantime a friend who is with Marine Rescue Bundaberg went to see their new boat being built where he got the word that there is a turf war going on between the state maritime bodies and AMSA.

AMSA wants to rule the roost but MSQ has put their collective butts into gear to show AMSA that their input is not required.

I personally do not like the idea of a bureaucrat in Canberra putting out a set of rules that is supposed to fit all situations.

I grew up as a local down there and this little bay used to be my favourite fishing spot...before they dredged it and pumped all the sand onto the yabbie banks, wiping a lot of them. Fortunately, I have had my fond memories of fishing at dawn and bringing the biggest whiting you can hope for. That's progress I suppose. One persons loss is another's gain. don't spoil it for the next generation though. For that reason I am happy for the clamp down on toilets to go on. People do swim with their kids in that place.
